  • are the rangers the big loser of the 2012 off season?

I think yes. a lot of other AL teams got better by signing big FAs including their division rival the angels who got the biggest price.

not only the rangers were unable to sign one of the big FA (pujols, fielder, reyes) they also lost their best pitcher C.J wilson also to their divison rival.
the only guy they could land was darvish and it is doubtful that darvish even can replace wilson adequately (although he does have very much talent).

didn't the rangers just sign a huge TV deal? I would be very dissapointed as a rangers fan. no big FA singned and letting walk their best pitcher to only sign an unproven japanese pitcher (and we know how japanese pitchers usually perform in the majors) despite having a lot of money is not fair towards the rangers fans.

Even if darvish does indeed dominate (big if) they are still not improved because wilson is gone. shouldn't they have done more when NY, detroit and especially their own divission rival the angel all improved their roster?

Is it possible the Rangers didn't resign CJ Wilson because he has won exactly 1 playoff game for them in 9 career starts? Not exactly a great way to prove you are worthy of "ace" money.

CJ Wilson = a lefty AJ Burnett
Using a stolen chant from Boston Celtics fans whenever an L.A. team is playing up there just reeks of inferiority complex.

If hitting a baseball is the toughest thing to do in sports, then pitching must be the easiest thing to do in sports.

well the other starters of texas all had a worse ERA than him. how exactly does helping your best ERA pitcher a team playoff stats or not?

Can you rephrase the question? I have no idea what you are asking.

you made it sound like losing wilson was no big loss because of his PO record. I do think that wilson is more a good no.2 rather than an ace but still such a pitcher is very valuable in a rotation.

I'll take a rotation of Derek Holland, Alexi Ogando, Matt Harrison, Colby Lewis and Neftali Perez. Add Yu Darvish to the mix and I think that Texas and the Angels are going to make the AL West very entertaining this year. And don't underestimate the importance of that staff working together with Nolan Ryan and Mike and Greg Maddux. Texas will have one of the best pitching staffs in all of baseball this year, which is something I never thought I'd say.

YU Darvish is an unknown hasn't proven anything and is all hype at this point.

Yeah he is a much better pitcher than people give him credit for.
Wilson had a 2.31 ERA on the road last year. The Rangers play in the worst pitcher's park in the ML.

I think he allowed for that assumption in his evaluation. He was the sixth starter listed.

100% true, but I believe he's going to be a very good pitcher in MLB. And even without him they have a very formidable starting five.
