One of my favorites Yankees, but why? Go out on top and enjoy retirement.

He is making a huge mistake coming out of retirement. He is going to come back and will probably tank this season. I also have this overwhelming feeling this fool is on roids.

I wouldnt think he's on anything and I think he can win 10-12 games. I wonder if this will help his hof chances if he does have a good year.

Clearly he got the itch while performing as a ST instructor. I don't blame him, you'd have had to rip the uniform off of me.

He could be on HGH, and he's not a hall of famer, regardless of steroids.

Yet one more thing Pettitte has in common with Sammy Sosa.

By the time he's ready he'll be fighting for a spot on a rotation that's already crowded. Maybe with an injury or trade (Garcia?) there will be a spot for him, but I just don't see a huge upside (or downside) here. He's better than average, but he also has a tendency to not pitch deep into games, which can stress the bullpen. He's got more rings than career shutouts. Cliff Lee had 2 more shutouts last season than Pettitte has in his career. Do the Yankees really need a man in the rotation who will only give up 1-3 runs per start but hand the ball off to the relievers in the 6th?

Unless he strings together a few Cy Young Award seasons, I don't see this doing anything for his HOF chances. His biggest selling point is the rings, and I just don't think anyone sees Pettitte as the man who carried any of those teams. His 117 ERA+ is unimpressive and lower than Blyleven's, and that was one of the things many people on this forum pointed at when they argued against Blyleven's candidacy. So not only is Pettitte's ERA not as good as Blyleven's, but he also pitched almost 2,000 fewer innings. It took Blyleven 14 years to make the HOF with a WAR of 90.1. Pettitte is currently at 49.9 and he's got an HGH issue hanging over his candidacy.

You don't think Pettitte could beat out Garcia?

                          Garcia? Really?

He had a good year in 2010 but I do not really like this. The Yanks have a ton of pitching. If we could trade Garcia, then this is great but we cannot move Sweddy until June. And the Yanks have a lot of back of the rotation options ready in AAA.
