He is making a huge mistake coming out of retirement. He is going to come back and will probably tank this season. I also have this overwhelming feeling this fool is on roids.Last edited by RaysFan_98; 03-16-2012, 10:10 AM.All it takes for evil to prevail is for good men to do nothing. -Unknown

I wouldnt think he's on anything and I think he can win 10-12 games. I wonder if this will help his hof chances if he does have a good year."(Shoeless Joe Jackson's fall from grace is one of the real tragedies of baseball. I always thought he was more sinned against than sinning." -- Connie Mack
"I have the ultimate respect for Whitesox fans. They were as miserable as the Cubs and Redsox fans ever were but always had the good decency to keep it to themselves. And when they finally won the World Series, they celebrated without annoying every other fan in the country."--Jim Caple, ESPN (Jan. 12, 2011)

Clearly he got the itch while performing as a ST instructor. I don't blame him, you'd have had to rip the uniform off of me.San Francisco Giants, World Series Champions in 2010, 2012, and 2014!!!

By the time he's ready he'll be fighting for a spot on a rotation that's already crowded. Maybe with an injury or trade (Garcia?) there will be a spot for him, but I just don't see a huge upside (or downside) here. He's better than average, but he also has a tendency to not pitch deep into games, which can stress the bullpen. He's got more rings than career shutouts. Cliff Lee had 2 more shutouts last season than Pettitte has in his career. Do the Yankees really need a man in the rotation who will only give up 1-3 runs per start but hand the ball off to the relievers in the 6th?
Unless he strings together a few Cy Young Award seasons, I don't see this doing anything for his HOF chances. His biggest selling point is the rings, and I just don't think anyone sees Pettitte as the man who carried any of those teams. His 117 ERA+ is unimpressive and lower than Blyleven's, and that was one of the things many people on this forum pointed at when they argued against Blyleven's candidacy. So not only is Pettitte's ERA not as good as Blyleven's, but he also pitched almost 2,000 fewer innings. It took Blyleven 14 years to make the HOF with a WAR of 90.1. Pettitte is currently at 49.9 and he's got an HGH issue hanging over his candidacy.
