  • Chipper to Retire

    Not so fast though.

According to MLB.com Chipper announced he will retire after the season.

    Let the goodbye tour begin.
If I had only spent a tenth of the time studying Physics that I spent learning Star Wars and Baseball trivia, I would have won the Nobel Prize.

If Chipper's not a first-ballot Hall of Famer they should just close the place down.

IIRC, he said the same thing in Spring Training last year.
They call me Mr. Baseball. Not because of my love for the game; because of all the stitches in my head.

He was thinking about it more, but never said anything concrete.

If there's one thing you can be sure of, he's not Brett Favre-ing this.

          True enough.

I rank him a close fourth among third basemen, and 2/3 as far as switch hitters go.

While I do not want to ban juicers from the HOF, I think it counts for something that it is almost certain the Chipper has never used PED's. This is based on his word, power number consistency, his body mass, and lack of failed drug tests.

I remember him being interviewed by MLB Network in Spring Training last year, and he said 2011 was "probably" going to be his last season. Hell, I don't blame him. Where else is he going to make $13,000,000 this year?

              great player
              1. The more I learn, the more convinced I am that many players are over-rated due to inflated stats from offensive home parks (and eras)

                Laaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaarry. Laaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaarry.
Using a stolen chant from Boston Celtics fans whenever an L.A. team is playing up there just reeks of inferiority complex.

If hitting a baseball is the toughest thing to do in sports, then pitching must be the easiest thing to do in sports.

Right, he said "probably". Thus, he was thinking about it.

With the conference announcing it in spring training this season, he risks tainting his image if he changes his mind. I'm not sure he will.

Looks like he's going to open his last season on the DL, unfortunately.

Nothing new. It's just part of the life of being a Braves fan lately. Prado will go to third base and we can only hope the Braves won't have to rely on Jose Constanza for too long. Despite his awful spring, I have to believe he has the inside track to the left field job because he's a lefty and can run.
