  • Opening Day 2012 = Fail

Opening Day 2012 is a Fail

It was barely publicized , It wasnt on MLB network or ESPN so nobody could watch it or even Fox

Why cant MLB do similar to what the NFL does.

Everyone looks forward to Opening Day and Spring, so why not promote the idea

Have the major league season open in great pagentry with the World Series Winner play a rival and maybe some Old Timers from that team appear at the game and some pop singers sing the Star Spangled Banner and Take me Out to the Ball game.

It could be a great event

That makes way too much sense, so I don't think Selig would go that route.

Damn I wish I had all the power people seem to think Selig has.

Exactly why was it not on ESPN, Fox or MLB network?

MLB network showed a RERUN of a Yankee Pre-season game.

I heard it wasnt even on in OAKLAND, It was only on in Seattle

I don't think Selig has anything to do with either making the schedule or how teams promote games.

I belive Roger Godell has the right to put any game on National TV if he wishes

When Mark McGwire was about to hit his 62nd Home run, Fox put the game on national TV on like a Tuesday or Wendnesday

Why wasn't the game accessible to MLB.TV subscribers?

Baseball is becoming a Mel Brooks parody of itself.
"No matter how great you were once upon a time — the years go by, and men forget,” - W. A. Phelon in Baseball Magazine in 1915. “Ross Barnes, forty years ago, was as great as Cobb or Wagner ever dared to be. Had scores been kept then as now, he would have seemed incomparably marvelous.”

If he can strong arm a team into moving leagues don't you think he can get commercial time for opening day? Why even play the Japan series if you don't promote it?

I was under the assumption that Selig and MLB decided to open the season in Japan and picked which clubs will participate. If Oakland and Seattle opted to do this on their own with MLB permission, then that's fine I guess (still rather it be exhibition games vs real games though).

I think if they are going to play there it should be an exhibition as well. I wouldn't seeing the Indians play a regular season out of the country. I think regular season games should be played in the home team's ballpark.

The traditional MLB opener used to be contested in Cincinatti every opening day being that they are baseball's oldest franchise. I rather liked that. I do agree with Zahavasdad though, would be nice to see the World Series winner open the season each year for MLB in defense of their crown, regardless of who they play . . .they would still be opening up the season in defense of their title. . . and some "hoopla" . . . and yes . . . "balloons" ha!
                            Some's basturds, some's ain't, thats the score.

It is. I'm watching it right now.
