  • Ichiro Ties the Opening Day Record!

Ichiro tied the Seattle Mariners Opening Day record set by Ken Griffey Jr. of four hits! Congratulations Ichiro for your big day in front of a "home town" crowd in Japan! That is a huge accomplishment! The legend continues to grow! And the Mariners whipped the A's too, led by Felix "King" Hernandez! What a terrific start to the MLB season in general!

Ichiro is up to 2,432 career hits!!!
Strikeouts are boring! Besides that, they're fascist. Throw some ground balls - it's more democratic.-Crash Davis

Actually, if you add in his 1278 hits in the Japanese league, he has 3710 for his career, and will easily pass 4,000 before he's through. He has at least an outside shot at passing Pete Rose for the most all-time. I know it wouldn't count, but it would be pretty cool.

Hideki Matsui has 505 home runs if we include his stats from Japan. I wonder if at any time in the future we will start inducting foreign players into the Hall Of Fame. If they're inducting Negro League players, they should induct guys like Sadaharu Oh.
        My top 10 players:

        1. Babe Ruth
        2. Barry Bonds
        3. Ty Cobb
        4. Ted Williams
        5. Willie Mays
        6. Alex Rodriguez
        7. Hank Aaron
        8. Honus Wagner
        9. Lou Gehrig
        10. Mickey Mantle

Why? Is the Japanese Baseball Hall of Fame inducting guys like Hank Aaron?

Ichiro will easily make the HOF on the strength of his MLB career. Matsui won't.
