I didnt realize until last night that by adding the two extra wild card games, they are shortening the Division series to best-of-3.

I havent heard that anywhere. I heard that they have changed the format of the divison series for 2-2-1 to 2-3 to make travel easier, but as far as I know the DS will still be a 5 game series.
Lets Go Yankees, Valley Cats, Dutchmen, UT Spartans and ECU Pirates.

Correct. The 2-3 change is for this year only, because they made the schedule before the second WC was added for this year. Also for this year only, both WC games will be on the same day. Next year they'll be over 2 days and the LDS goes back to 2-2-1.

Does anyone know the tie-breaker rules? Say three teams tie for two spots, or two teams tie for the 2nd spot? Feel free, if you know, to add any other scenario's.

Am I the only one who absolutely hates the second Wild Card? I love hockey and all, but I don't want baseball to end up like that.

I hate it too. one game means nothing in baseball. I want the best regular season teams to win and more teams in could mean even more surprise wins (although it has the advantage that the WC team is punished by burning their ace but still they easily can come through).

For that reason I think the old two team postseason with a long WS like it was played pre wwII is the best but it won't come back.

It's just another "footbalization" of baseball.

but it is going to stay and since I like baseball I'm going to watch those games.

I think they should have waited till they could add two teams and go to a four-division setup with no wildcards.

The second WC is the final infidelity baseball will pull on me in this horribly one sided marriage.

I could care less about baseball in April,May,June or July.

I will check periodically in August because the 162 season has very little meaning if 38% of the teams get to have a playoff....

Baseball is so wanting to be NFL and NBA that they have lost touch with the fans who loved the intricate nuiances of the game.

All star winner has home field, Dh is still here, Pitchers using 100 pitches in 5 IP, Astros to the AL making interleague even more prominent...blah

There is no bunting, very little hit and run, same cliched have a lefty reliever face only a lefty or two and yank him and now they have low scoring games w/o stgeroids. Only a matter of 3 years before fences move in or rules will take place to have multiple players hit 60 HRs again.

                    All for the $$$

Wake me up in August...but I will probably be playing poker instead

the baseball standings in one of my local newspapers includes games behind division leader AND games behind wild card.

I don't like additional playoff teams but I also really, really like that there is now great incentive to playing to win your division. Wild card teams should be penalized more than they were from '94-'10. I don't know if this is the best solution, but it is an improvement. In the end I'm rather torn on the issue.
