It's funny, for ALL the hype he's had...he's been a .290 hitter with 18 HR's in 534 minor league plate appearances.
Hardly amazing (of course, he is only 19 years old).

Hell, I wish he were a Yankee prospect!
Of course, I never said he was bad.

That's one way to look at it. Another would be that he's a .254/.330/.388 hitter with 4 HR's in 229 PA's above Class-A ball. Ready? We'll see, but I'm not sold.

And on the same day, Bobby Abreu is released by the Angels and replaced on the roster by 20-year old Mike Trout, who was hitting .403 at Triple-A.

Who has the better big league numbers by season's end? I say Trout.

Seeing as how Trout has a seasons worth of PA's over Harper, and Harper likely will go back down to Triple-A once Zimmerman comes off the DL, I'll go ahead and say Trout will have the better numbers.

Exactly what the Dude said. I don't see Trout going back down to the minors but Harper will go back down...unless of course he's tearing it up at he Major League level.

Will he go back down? That's to be seen, and likely depends upon his performance.

Asked whether Harper would start for Washington on Saturday, Rizzo wouldn't answer directly, saying that's a question for Johnson.

But Rizzo did say: "We didn't bring Bryce up there to sit on the bench. He's going to get every-day reps and get ample at-bats."

"He will get an opportunity to play," Johnson said. "As far as I'm concerned, he has earned the right to get the opportunity. He is just a good ballplayer coming up to the big leagues, is the way I look at it."

Rizzo wouldn't weigh in on whether Harper necessarily will stay in the majors, even after Zimmerman returns, or is definitely going to go back to the minors."This is a very confident person, and we expect him to do well in the major leagues," Rizzo said. "He's the type of guy who will handle anything that is thrown at him and will be the better for it."

That's why I said he will likely go back down. IF he's batting .300 (A long shot for a 19 year old whose hitting .250 right now in triple-A), when Zimmerman (and more specifically when Morse) comes back, then he'll likely stay up.

If he's batting .200 when Morse comes back, and Ankiel is batting .265, why would you keep him in the majors?

So you're saying it's likely he won't succeed then?

It is likely he won't have a big enough impact to warrant keeping him on the major league roster for the next few months. I think he'll have a great career, but as a 19 year old, there are less than a handful of players in baseball history who had a large enough impact to warrant keeping them on the roster when there were other players on the same team performing better.

The big question then may end up being, are there any other players peforming better than Harper? I don't think he's ready, personally, but can he do much worse than the collective .093/.200/.120 batting line Washington's left fielders have put up so far? It will be interesting to see this thing play out. 1-for-3 so far tonight, with a double and a key sac fly.

My first impression of Harper: He has a world of talent but he seems like a bit of a douchebag. On his first ML hit he throws his helmet off after rounding first base and then he stands there on second with a stupid mean look on his face and ugly mop of hair with a long rat tail.
                              My top 10 players:

                              1. Babe Ruth
                              2. Barry Bonds
                              3. Ty Cobb
                              4. Ted Williams
                              5. Willie Mays
                              6. Alex Rodriguez
                              7. Hank Aaron
                              8. Honus Wagner
                              9. Lou Gehrig
                              10. Mickey Mantle
