There's a difference between a bad ump and an idiot ump. A bad ump screws up calls. An idiot ump screws up calls and it's your fault for getting upset.

The ump has to be out of position if he can't see a tag miss by that much.

The problem is that when an umpire is in a good position to see one tag (or attempted tag), he's going to be in a bad position to see another one. If the throw was on line, he would have been in good position to see a tag right at the base.

He's got to move with the play. Yes there are times when it's impossible to see a very close play, but this wasn't close. Not as bad as the Helton play but pretty blatant.
