Didn't he have a few injuries over the last 2 seasons?
I now have my own non commercial blog about training for batspeed and power using my training experience in baseball and track and field.

Ramirez was not the best player from 2006-10. Albert Pujols was.

        2006-2010
        Pujols: .330/.435/.628, 177 OPS+
        Ramirez: .313/.385/.521, 136 OPS+

First of all he wasn't the best player in that time frame......

WAR is far from perfect, but Hanley ranks 6th in WAR among position players between 2006-2010, mainly because of his sub-par defense.

Pujols was clearly better during that timeframe (it's not close). A-Rod was better too and a strong argument can be made for Chase Utley, Joe Mauer, and a few others as being better all around players than Hanley Ramirez from 2006-2010.
            My top 10 players:

            1. Babe Ruth
            2. Barry Bonds
            3. Ty Cobb
            4. Ted Williams
            5. Willie Mays
            6. Alex Rodriguez
            7. Hank Aaron
            8. Honus Wagner
            9. Lou Gehrig
            10. Mickey Mantle

They were talking about that with Carlos pena and how he has something like a 14.2 WAR with the Rays.

No positional adjustment can make up a difference of 27 points in BA, 50 points in OBP, and 107 points in slugging percentage. And it's not like Han-Ram was Ozzie Smith with the glove and Pujols was Frank Thomas with the glove.

He was the best SS for sure. But best player? It's questionable he was even the best middle infielder. Utely was at least his equal... possibly better.

April was pretty bad. But his splits this year show that he's coming back to form :

People are forgetting that Ramirez was also a great base stealer earlier in his career; getting 50 steals a year at a great rate. This can make up for some of the hitting gap between him and some others.

But even including his running game, I think the only year he had a case as the best player in baseball was 2009.

Hanley was the best ALL AROUND player in that timespan. There were better hitters, fielders, etc but nobody put it all together on the field like he did.

He's been hurt and the slow start this year, but he'll come around.
