  • Why is nobody talking about Joey Votto?

For a guy who just signed a huge contract, and is having a borderline historic season, Joey Votto is being seemingly ignored this season. Not huge home run numbers, but on pace for over 60 doubles, a .478 On base percentage, and 191 OPS+.

Still just 28, I think he can become an all time great by the time he is done...like Edgar Martinez type rate stats, except with a longer career.

Probably the same reason nobody is talking about Andrew McCutchen. It's a shame they only teams they broadcast on ESPN, MLBN, TBS or FOX are the Yankees, Phillies or Red Sox,

      Define "nobody".

I've heard plenty of talk about Votto. He's the best hitter in baseball over the last 3 years (with the possible exception of Miguel Cabrera).
      My top 10 players:

      1. Babe Ruth
      2. Barry Bonds
      3. Ty Cobb
      4. Ted Williams
      5. Willie Mays
      6. Alex Rodriguez
      7. Hank Aaron
      8. Honus Wagner
      9. Lou Gehrig
      10. Mickey Mantle

I have no interest in this team...boring to me...I have the MLB Extra Innings package, and find myself watching quite a few Nationals, Rangers, Angels, and even Royals games...however, Phillies? no interest whatsoever

Since the beginning of 2009 Votto is hitting .321/.424/.569, 164 OPS+. Wow.

Nah, there's no possible exception there, IMO. Cabrera was better in 2010, and significantly better in 2011. Votto is having a better season this year thus far, but I'm willing to bet Cabrera has better numbers by the end. Cabrera still deserves the recognition as the game's best hitter, IMO.

You may be right. Cabrera has been slightly better offensively, but you have to admit they are very, very similar.

                      Since 2009:

                      Votto
                      .321/.424/.569/.994 OPS+ 164

                      Cabrera
                      .331/.416/.580/.996 OPS+ 165

They are, and both are roughly the same age, and in their primes.

It should be a good "battle" for the "best hitter in baseball" title between these two over the next few years.

I've definitely been watching his walk and double numbers.

Man I really, really, want to see just one 60+ doubles season in my lifetime! It's only been done six times and the last time it was done was in 1936!

both are really good. but I think miggy has a slight advantage because he does it in the AL and detroit is a pitchers park while cincy is a bandbox.
I now have my own non commercial blog about training for batspeed and power using my training experience in baseball and track and field.
