  • ESPN Game of The Week matches teams with 54-76 records

so both teams play in rickety old ballparks and both teams went or are still going thru all time intervals between championships

both currently cemented in last place in their divisions

    riveting tv

    1. The more I learn, the more convinced I am that many players are over-rated due to inflated stats from offensive home parks (and eras)

Not alot of good matchups today. Maybe Yankees-Nationals but it seems there on every week. Dodgers-Whitesox maybe but lets face it not too many people care for the Whitesox. Your team the Giants really had no chance since there playing another WestCoast team. Cub-Redsox probably would be the best just for nostalgia.

I would hope they wouldn't do something like that in September.

"I have the ultimate respect for Whitesox fans. They were as miserable as the Cubs and Redsox fans ever were but always had the good decency to keep it to themselves. And when they finally won the World Series, they celebrated without annoying every other fan in the country."--Jim Caple, ESPN (Jan. 12, 2011)

It's ESPN, they cater almost exclusively to the East Coast viewer. This isn't news.

Remember the ALDS in 2005 with the insufferable Chris Berman openly rooting for the Red Sox over the White Sox? He made it clear by his moaning and groaning when things didn't go Boston's way. He did everything but wear a Boston cap on camera.
They call me Mr. Baseball. Not because of my love for the game; because of all the stitches in my head.

You mean Chris "Don't Make the Bosox Go Home In Octo" Berman?

It makes me laugh when ESPN calls Sunday Night Baseball 'Baseball's Biggest Stage'. I thought baseball's biggest stage was the World Series.

ESPN was pushing this underwhelming match-up pretty hard.

I'm guessing it was the game of the week because of Theo Epstein. That certainly didn't make me tune-in though.

Did Theo wear his best gorilla suit for the game?
Man, the '12 Cubs are making the rather mediocre '12 Bosox look like the '27 Yanks. I saw the Cubs in Fenway last season and talked up most of the visiting fans who sat near us because I'm a Chicagoland native, and every one of them just couldn't believe how bad the Cubs had become. Some no name reliever came in for the Cubs and a guy in front of me told me to watch carefully because he was the worst pitcher in the majors...he sure looked it that night.
I am still fond of the Cubs and hope Theo can get them back on track...maybe he should make sure they really stink for a few more years and get some good draft picks, like happened with the Nats and the Rays.

Yeah I always heard about that but i never noticed it. Maybe because I was at a bar most of those games. But that is pretty bad for a network guy to act like that.

Have they really played 130 games already?
