  • A-Rod, Swisher Voted Among MLB’s Most Hated In Player Poll; Joba Most Overrated

Vindicated! I knew I wasn't the only one who couldn't stand Nick Swisher-his peers don't like him, either. This poll of 100 MLB players produced some interesting results.
They call me Mr. Baseball. Not because of my love for the game; because of all the stitches in my head.

Interesting....I wonder why Arod and Swisher are not liked. Both seems like they would be ok teammates.

why the hell did Swish do to anyone?

i understand people hate A-rod, since he has 640 homers and three MVP's. oh and he's a world series champ.

I love how everyone is swimming in A. J.'s wake.

“Everything about (Swisher) is annoying, from his mannerisms to his always wanting to ‘bro’ it down,” an unnamed American League veteran told the magazine. “Being around him is just exhausting.”

Whole lotta jealous Pirates and Royals out there sound like a bunch of gossip queens in junior high.

And it's hilarious that people think Joba is still overrated. I haven't heard his name mentioned all year. How is he any more overrated than Buchholz or Becket?

In 2008 when I was living in Chicago, I had the opportunity to watch Swisher in his one season with the White Sox, and was not impressed. He was always clowning and preening in the dugout during games, he did a promotional commercial for the White Sox where he was doing "the worm", flopping around on the ground like a fool. There was the infamous incident in the visitors' clubhouse in Toronto that I can't even describe here, while the Sox were being swept in a four game series. All this while he was hitting at a .219 clip. He finished that season with the lowest BA among eligible players in MLB. I would have liked less comedy and a little more production. He didn't endear himself to his teammates or management in his brief one-season stay in Chicago.

As for A-Rod, I dislike him for the obvious reasons, but I suspect his peers remember some of his bush-league antics on the bases; i.e. running across the pitcher's mound in Oakland, shouting "I got it" while baserunning on an infield pop-up, knocking the ball out of an infielder's hand on a tag play, etc.

"Brandon" Arroyo played against ARod in HS and told a little story that neatly summed up his personality for me. The game was a little too close for the players from ARod's elite school and they were geting antsy, and after one close call ARod barked something like, "Hey, WE should be getting those close calls!" at an umpire.
Entitlement, arrogance, and lack of respect = ARod

I can see how Swisher's personality can rub people the wrong way. He seems to talk a lot, in front of the camera a lot, and has a "cockiness" about him that often can rub others the wrong way...with that, I dont know the guy either...also, does he have ADHD? It wouldnt surprise me if he did

No, I think it's more likely because they don't make $30,000,000 a year and bang Hollywood starlets on regular basis. It's pure jealousy.

It depends on how Dave Justice feels. He was married to Halle Berry after all. and Jeter hates him makes a ton of money and has a list of conquests that would make A-Rod blush, Mariah Carey before she became a parody of herself, Jesisca Alba or Biel I forget, and on and on

In a 2009 World Series game in Philadelphia Swisher caught a fly ball for the third out of an inning. The he turned towards the outfield stands and made a fake throw into the seats to Phillies fans looking for a souvenier. He proceeded to hold up the ball in a taunting manner, and run the ball into the infield. He really got on the Phillies fans nerves and I'm sure there have been other incidents in regular season play where he's played mind games wih the opposition's fans. He was not a nice guy in his early days with other teams, and has become even a bigger jerk since he's become a Yankee.
