  • Dave Barnett Has Migrane, Speaks Gibberish During Rangers Broadcast

    Never seen this before.

Runner at 5th? Pitcher thought it was an armed robbery, what?

    From ESPN:

Texas Rangers television play-by-play announcer Dave Barnett believes a recurrence of migraine headaches is to blame for his unusual behavior on the air during Monday's game against the San Diego Padres.

As Texas' Mike Adams pitched in the eighth inning, Barnett's description of the game took a turn for the surreal.

"A 2-1 game, the tying run at second on a leadoff single by Chase Headley," Barnett said on the telecast. "The go-ahead run ... is at fifth, on what Adams is insisting on calling a botched robbery. What actually happened was his henchman took a piece literally out of ..."

Barnett stopped there, then finished the game without further incident.

The Rangers said in a statement Tuesday that Barnett will miss the last two games of the series in San Diego and will be evaluated over the next few days.

Barnett, 54, took over as the Rangers' lead television play-by-play voice during the 2011 season after joining the radio broadcast team in 2009. Prior to joining the Rangers, he spent 13 years working in TV and radio for ESPN and ABC, according to his biography on the Rangers' website.

The Rangers said radio announcer Steve Busby temporarily would assume Barnett's TV duties alongside analyst Tom Grieve for the rest of the series.
ABC News seems to think he had a mild stroke.

ABC is being too presumptive. The exact same thing happened to a L.A. reporter last year (easily found on youtube). It was not a stroke, but caused by a migrane.

I think if it had been a stroke, Barnett would have shown much more serious symptoms. I doubt he'd have been able to recover and finish the game.

I do hope he is OK though. I didn't know migraines could do this.

I didn't know migraines could do this either. At least he seemed to recover.
