He's just been named to the all-star team as a replacement, so this is not something that over zealous fans have had anything to do with. Off the top of my head I can think of ten more deserving replacements than wonder boy.

He is wonder boy, though. ian2813, to me, makes a pretty good argument about the All Star Game being about the fan and the fan experience. Bryce Harper is a good story, an exciting player people who watch baseball want to see. I don't mind him being an all-star replacement based on that.
You know there was no way Tony LaRussa would have chosen Brandon Phillips after the spat he had with Dusty Baker earlier. I'm still surprised David Freese beat Harper in the runoff, nothing against Freese.Dave Bill Tom George Mark Bob Ernie Soupy Dick Alex Sparky

My point was that this selection was not made by the fans. They had every opportunity to vote him in. It's on Tony LaRussa, who is no longer accountable to any player's union or management backlash for what is obviously a bad choice. I wonder what (take your pick) Hunter Pence, Garrett Jones, Corey Hart, Matt Holliday, Tyler Colvin, Jason Kubel, Michael Cuddyer, Jason Heyward...(you get the picture) have to say about it. I'm just sayin....smoker

If the final vote is to be determined by the fans.... Why are ones choices not pulled from the top vote getters? Harper didn't even break top 15 in the OF segment. The league determined the final vote participants. Most of the top vote getters(OF) are having superior years to Harper's.
My point is, Harper is not who the fans wanted.Last edited by Buczilla; 07-08-2012, 07:24 AM.

Michael Bourn was named as a replacement too.
You kind of have to feel bad for Aaron Hill. Of all the National League's Final Vote candidates, he's the only one who didn't end up on the team. I suppose there's still time.

There's controversy about that because there are some (supposedly) unsettled grudges between Brandon Phillips (for what he said as an instigator), Johnny Cueto (for karate kicks) and Tony LaRussa. I don't judge (usually) so it's all just something to talk about. Like LaRussa's drunk-driving. Just chatting it up here.smoker

It's too bad Stanton won't be playing. He is the type of player MLB should be showcasing, as well.Dave Bill Tom George Mark Bob Ernie Soupy Dick Alex Sparky
