Head hunter this guy has hit Ryhmes and Scott (2) and longo so far every time he is up it seems he is hitting someone.

So it looks like he's both a headhunter AND a crybaby.

I mean, where does he get off calling Tex a racist? If those two don't like each other, then that's one thing, but come on.

He's damn lucky he's playing in the AL.

        Both, and evidently a race-baiter.

In other words, he is lucky if he has any friends.

He isn't the only one that has hit a lot of batters though the whole red sox pen seems to hit a lot of guys lately.

If he was *just* a headhunter, that'd be one thing. There have been plenty of pitchers who did that without being total jerks. Gibson, Drysdale, Ryan, Martinez. Hell, even Clemens.

Padilla isn't even a stain on those men's shoes.

The race-baiting wasn't even as troubling as inferring (unintentionally, perhaps) that high-level female athletes are not extremely competitive.

Do high level softball players throw at each other?

Do the benches clear in the WNBA?

I don't know, but I would be curious to find out.

I don't think what Padilla said was intentional in that way. I don't see Padilla as much of an equal rights guy (though many of them are actually misandrous sexists, for the record, believing in equal rights only where it suits them) but I don't think he was implying what you are saying. I think his implication was more that women are not as aggressive towards each other, in quite the way men are. I don't actually know, and I can't email him so who knows for sure.

For whatever reason, males in high level sports tend to fight more than females. Males seem to have more aggression towards each other. It might take 50 years to have a substantial sample size, one large enough to actually make solid inferences, but males seem to show far more aggression towards each other than females. Sometimes conventional wisdom IS accurate.

I think Padilla is the worst kind of coward. A weak little boy, who is only tough with the ball in his hand. I would love to see Tex throw the bat at him, and pretend it slipped, that is what cowardly pitchers deserve. If you want to throw the ball at someone's head, you should be prepared take a bat. If you aren't, you really are not much of a man. Or a woman, if the shoe fits.

And the race baiting is pretty pathetic. If Padilla hits Tex again, he should face a year ban. He has shown a consistent pattern of behavior, and he deserves to be punished for it. For someone to hit another player on purpose, and to hit that guy consistently, is completely unacceptable.

I actually do wish I had Padilla's email address, I would love to give him piece of my mind, but I don't. If I ever get seats close to the bullpen I will give him a piece of my mind.

This is nothing new for Padilla, he's had that reputation for years.

I'm sure if you sent him a letter in care of the club at the ballpark it would reach him. You probably should, since he ought to know how his behavior is perceived. And you can let him know about your intention to sit near the bullpen and tell him off. That will give him something to think about next time.
Indeed the first step toward finding out is to acknowledge you do not satisfactorily know already; so that no blight can so surely arrest all intellectual growth as the blight of cocksureness.--CS Peirce

But if he has a ball in his hand, be ready to duck.

I said that it may not have been intentional, but like you alluded to, fighting is not necessary for a athlete to be uber-competative.

OMG, how incredible that you provide evidence that totally contradicts your own point. All of those pitchers were TOTAL jerks. Gibson bragged about throwing at hitters for the hell of it, and beat up a guy in a road rage incident just a few years ago. Drysdale was a smarmy, smug jerk, and you'd only have had to hear him broadcast a game to know that. Ryan cut the ball even though he could throw 100mph, and triggered the whole Ventura incident by headhunting and thinking there should be no repercussions because of his "status" in the game (as a guy with a golden arm who didn't learn how to pitch until he was nearly 40). I blame The Gerbil for the whole head slamming incident, but how many men in their prime would do that to an old man? Clemens was probably the worst of the bunch, got fat and lazy in Boston and then turned to steroids to reignite his career. These guys all had incredible stuff and still felt the need to headhunt. Funny how guys like Maddux and Spahn were able to excell without great stuff or headhunting by using their brains, plus be decent humans in addition.
Padilla is a fringe player, and he probably feels that he needs to use the threat of a HBP to keep batters from settling in and teeing off on his mediocre stuff. He's probably a jerk, too. Teix is a guy who signed a huge contract and has been kind of cruising since then. I think he's just as big a jerk, if not worse...at least Padilla has the excuse of having to scrabble to stay in the game instead of cashing the big paychecks no matter what he does.
