  • Why are there no games today?

This is the first time I can remember no games on the Thursday following the all star game. It's hard enought to go three days without baseball let alone four.

Wow, I had no idea until I read your post. Very strange. Usually, coming out of the break, the teams will just play a 4 game series to get back into the regular flow (series ending on Sunday). It would be kinda funny if any teams are playing a Friday-Monday series.

I believe that it is a part of the new CBA. Something about allowing Japanese players to go home?

You may be right, but that is a tough trip in just a few days, particularly if you are not on the coast and need a connection

Yeah I was wondering about that too. These 4 days do seem like forever.

It's bad, but I wouldn't say 4 days with no baseball. The HR Derby and All-Star Game are something.

I suppose the All-star break was a decent filler but since The Whitesox are doing well and joining a fantasy baseball league which i'm doing well in it seems like forever. Plus there really hasn't been too many interesting posts here which also makes it seem longer.

Congrats on your fantasy team doing well.

The first three starting pitchers I drafted this year were Tim Lincecum (3-10, 6.42), Josh Johnson (5-5, 4.06), and Chris Carpenter (hasn't pitched - out for the season). My first position player was Adrian Gonzalez (6 HR in 339 AB). My first reliever was Mariano Rivera (out for the season).

                    Enough said.

Yeah, I suppose Reggie's foot-in-mouth disease is not exactly earth-shattering news...

Thanks yeah It's my first year in one. I think i've gotten pretty lucky, I picked up a bunch of Whitesox players who nobody drafted and they really have come through. I picked em up as kinda a joke too because I didn't think I had a chance but somehow I made it into first place.

None of my fantasy opponents are laughing at my Adam Dunn pickup anymore. He hit like 5 or 6 homeruns the week I picked him up against the biggest heckler. I picked up Chris Sale Jake Peavy and now I just picked up Jose Quintana. It makes watching the Whitesox games more fun when they are on my fantasy team.

Well that one was kinda interesting but besides that theres not too much interesting news that came out.

Robinson Cano getting jeered was probably the biggest news in the last 4 days.

Doesn't Dunn's brutal batting average cancel out a lot of his value? Yahoo currently has him ranked 69th, which doesn't take positional value into account. Which reminds me, I had a friend who used to draft both Ichiro and Dunn every year when they were in their primes. His logic was that though they are polar opposites as players, they would average out to a .300, 25 HR, 25 SB player. Any fantasy player would love to have two guys with those numbers on their team, especially since they usually didn't have to pick them so early due to their flaws.

As far as my team goes, despite my horrendous draft, my team is actually doing well - currently ranked 5th out of 16 teams. I drafted some players late that have panned out (Jason Kubel and Jonathan Broxton for example) and made some timely pickups ( like picking up Colby Rasmus a couple weeks ago, right before he went on a ridiculous hot streak). I also picked up Ernesto Frieri on the day he got traded to the Angels...Got lucky in a few areas.
