  • Poor Ron Washington

When's the last time a manager like Ron Washington lost two World Series Championships and two All-Star games in two years? Any one else match or surpass this dubious record?

At least he only got busted for Cocaine use once. Two years in a row would have been tough.

Earl Weaver is kind of close. His teams lost, won then lost the World Series from 1969-1971 and had the same record for the All Star Game from 1970-72. Billy Martin was the losing manager for two straight All-Star games but at least his team won the World Series in 1977.

Well he keeps blowing it with his moves i guess he likes to keep making it back to the WS and lose....

I think I just answered my own question: looks like Bobby Cox was the last "Washington." Lost WS in 1991 & '92 managing Braves and thenAll-Star games to AL in 1992 & '93--in exact sequence as Washington. Check me on this!

But if Nelson Cruz doesn't misplay Freese's hit into a triple, Wahington is a genius.

Fate just seems to not want the Rangers to win it.

Checked and confirmed. I noticed your statement in the original post and immediately thought of Cox. The AL beat the NL 13-6 in 1992 and 9-3 in 1993.

Pffft. I wouldn't have said the same about the Braves in 1991 and 1992. Then again, I was nine years old.

46 wins to match last year's total

Being a former Philly kid and fan, following a franchise that lost a record 10,000 (!) games before becoming an NL juggernaut, I do sympathize with Rangers and wish them well. Yet if Washington & his Texas homies lose Series again this year for third straight time, they'll just be matching the negative 3-peat pulled off by the old Giants and Tigers from earliest days of the Series. Something to watch for...

If that happens they'll curse the All Star Game home-field advantage rule too.

And Ron Washington will be in position to become the Marv Levy of MLB*

*Marv Levy was the coach of the NFL Buffalo Bills when they lost 4 straight Super Bowls in the early 90s. Since that debacle, the Bills haven't even been back to the AFC Championship Game, let alone the Super Bowl.

Right about Levy and NFL. I had to look back to confirm if any MLB team had ever lost 4 World Series in row, but no yet. Poor Marv must be only major pro sports coach in history to have that happen in 4 straight championships. Still I'm surprised it never happened to our old Philly A's!

I feel sooooo badly for him. Not. Dude took two teams to the World Series in back-to-back years and has a good shot of doing it a third time. Nope, don't feel bad for him at all. Dude's on top of the world. He lost a few games? I'm sure he'll get over it.

Now if he were to reach Buffalo Bills-like infamy, then we're talking another monster altogether. Then I'd truly start to feel badly for him.
