  • This season going to be crazier then last year? if that is even possible?

This is going to be a crazy season... There are 8 teams battling for the two wild card slots. Add the three division leaders and there are 11 teams is battling for the post season... Only the royals, mariners and twins find themselves on the outside looking in, but again, they are only 8 games out of the wild card. No one is out or safe as of yet but i realize it is very early yet.

Its gonna be awesome come mid September. Say what you will about the new playoff format, wild cards, and this and that, but its gonna make late season baseball even more dramatic. Hopefully it will be epic so we can all forget about September 28, 2011.

Never liked much of what Selig has changed with the game, but IMO the WC was one of the greatest innovations for baseball. I thik a 2nd will be highly successful, but I'm a bit more hesitant to think that was compared to how I was when the first was instituted. It's still the hardest sport to make the postseason, and unlike those you actually need to play .500+ to make it.

Sorry, still hate the WC and watered down playoffs.

If the season ended now, three AL teams would be tied for the second WC spot, and what a mess that would be. Adding that extra team increases the likelihood of ties that need to be played off so that the teams can play a one-game playoff to see who makes the playoffs (say what?!?). Not to mention how exciting it'd be for three teams with .516 winning percentages to be battling for that final, extra, spot.

And there's always a one-game playoff for tiebreakers? Even divisional championships? How is home field decided, if 1st and 2nd wild cards are tied?

With the addition of a second wild card, does anyone else think the trade deadline should be pushed to august? This would give teams more time to figure out if they are buyers or sellers

I rather see the two wild card teams play a 3 or 5 games series than a 1 game playoff format. Baseball isnt football, atleast have some sort of series
