How long to charge a battery?

Does a talented veteran pitcher like Grienke need to miss two starts to recharge his batteries? His next start is early next week. Early next week, not only will Neftali Perez possibly return, but also Jonathan Lucroy...Is there a Greinke, Perez, Martin Maldanado and other parts deal all set? and the Brewers kind of asked for a short delay to get Lucroy back off the dl? in exchange Zach gets rested and protected? I'm just throwing stuff out like the other folks on the internet.... It just seemed strange to announce your star pitcher was going to sit down for a long stretch.....when you're either trying to win or trying to showcase.

I don't want to speculate but we all know that greinke has psychological problems. maybe he is experiencing some kind of burnout or something and thus needs to be rested. we shouldn't judge that without further information.

You say that like he started and completed 6+ innings in three games on three consecutive calendar days which is not the case. I don't think the Brewers did anything wrong with the way they handled that situation.

He didn’t pitch well that second day after he was thrown out and he didn’t pitch well the other day. He didn’t feel the same; he just didn’t feel right. We kind of got him out of his routine.”

In hindsight, Roenicke said he regrets starting Greinke the day after his ejection-shortened start in Houston. Greinke had a rough first inning and left after throwing 66 pitches in three innings.

Hindsight is 20/20. My point was that he only threw four pitches in that first start, started the next day, then started 5 or 6 days later after the All Star break. At the time, it didn't seem like a terrible idea because if it did, they wouldn't have done it.

I'm not suggesting you don't know this, but I'm going to say it because I've heard MLB players say that their own managers did not actually understand this.

The amount of pitches in the game are NOT what you need to look at. You have to add in all the warm up pitchers too. If a starter throws 30-40 warm up pitches, then sits down, he isn't necessarily going to be ready to go the next day. It depends on how hard he throws in warm ups and we don't know how hard he threw.

A lot of players complain that some managers burn out the bullpen by having a few of them get up and throw 20-25 pitches and then sit and not come in the game. Good managers take that into account.

So Greinke threw, lets say 40 pitches on day one, then 8 at the start of the inning, then 4 in the game, sits and on day 2 does another 40+8 the next day. That's 100 pitches, and even if only 65% were at 2/3 force, that's not a fresh pitcher. THEN he threw another 66 pitches all at full force. Moreover, if no one told him he was going to start the next day, he may not have done some things to prepare for the next day (whether that is icing, heat, rubdown or whatever.)

Obviously it takes longer to charge the transmitter than it does the receiver.
