Ironically, I just started reading this book. I bought it last month at a Portland bookstore for $5.95.

R.I.P. That book is great as is his book on Stengel. Unles I am mistaken Creamer is the gold standard of baseball biographers.

I remember Creamer from Ken Burns Baseball. He and Bob Costas were my favorites from that.

Creamer, loved his works and his talking about the game in some interviews, so interesting.............................missed..

This book, though less well-known than Creamer's biographies, is also an excellent read.

If you never read "Underworld" by Don DeLillo . . . read the 1st - 20 pages. I smiled the entire time . . . It's Oct. 3, 1951 . . . It's worth the price of admission of this one chapter. I haven't gone further yet, still reading . . . but it's worth it. R.I.P. Mr. Creamer . . . I won't soon forget you.
