  • Strasburg's Hitting

Has anyone else noticed how well Strasburg has done at the plate this year?

He's hitting .343 with 4 doubles, 1 HR and 7 RBI. His OPS is .953. Not too shabby!

I posted a few weeks ago about it. I think he has a higher offensive war than half the Nationals team does right now.

Sorry that I missed your post... That's crazy about the WAR. I am going to have to start paying attention these good hitting pitchers - he had a clutch hit yesterday.

It's not so crazy. He's being compared with other pitchers. All that means is that half of the position players on the Nats are below-average offensively at their positions, while Strasburg is well above average at his position.

Similiarly, in 2008 Carlos Zambrano had a higher offensive WAR than several of his teammates. Micah Owings finished 4th on his team in offensive WAR in his rookie season despite starting only 27 games.
        My top 10 players:

        1. Babe Ruth
        2. Barry Bonds
        3. Ty Cobb
        4. Ted Williams
        5. Willie Mays
        6. Alex Rodriguez
        7. Hank Aaron
        8. Honus Wagner
        9. Lou Gehrig
        10. Mickey Mantle

maybe he can become a hitter after his arm is done.

You think his arm is going to blow out again?

I hope not since I like him but he has not changed his mechanics at all. I now the theory of the inverted-W/late forearm bounce is controversial but I think there is something to it although not the only factor.

I was thinking they should shut up down for a few weeks from pitching, let him play the field, then let him pitch in the post-season. :clowning:

As a complete player he's may be better than any other pitcher around today in part because of his hitting.
