Will they be considered a playoff team, or will only the Wild Card play-in winner be a playoff team?

I guess they would be, but it will be kind of a reversal because in years past I don't think that the loser of tiebreaker game #163 was considered a playoff team.
I know that's not what the one-game playoff is, but it seems to be what they're trying to emulate (Rockies-Padres in 2007). So, a little bit of a change at least in my mind.Comment

Who knows how it will actually work out, but the Padres are not considered to be have been a playoff team that year they got robbed, I mean, lost, in that playoff game in Colorado.Comment

That's because that was a regular season game to decide who made the playoffs. This one-game playoff decides who moves on to the next round of playoffs. Those times when an extra game is added to the schedule to decide a division winner or wild-card team I would not consider a 'post-season' game, simply because they are not 'post' season. With the new format, I would consider it a play-off game because both teams will have completed the regular season. But that's just me. If it comes down to the Tigers being one of those teams, I want to be able to tell everybody (especially Twins fans) that the Tigers made the post season in 2012.smokerComment
