  • Sabre fans might want to watch this

A while back I had a chance to go through that Bill James book and one of the things he mentioned was using your best reliever when you needed him..*which I have often agreed with) and not wait till the ninth to bring in your closer. If you check out the Brewers MLB site, it kind of sounds like Roenecke is gonna go that route considering the troubles they've had at the back end. or maybe it's been done before? It doesn't sound like a bullpen by committee thing though.. just thought I'd toss it out..thanks for putting up with me... where are all the old guys from this site...? burgess, rmb? west coast? the nj boxing nut? McKenna?they aren't dead, are they?

Buffalo hockey fans might want to watch it, huh? Kidding, kidding.

Roenicke said he doesn't buy the line of reasoning that losing in the ninth inning is different.

"Why?" he asked. "Because it feels different? It's still a loss. What if you're losing all the games in the seventh inning and you're never using your best pitchers to win games? ... The ninth is only important now because of saves. Everyone talks about saves, about blown saves. If you really want to do it right, and you really want to win that game and you don't care about saves, you don't care about players' contracts, you just want to win those games, your closer does not always pitch the ninth inning."
Roeniecke gets it. He just has to stick with the plan.
46 wins to match last year's total
