  • The Rocket is Back!

    From Rotoworld...

Roger Clemens has signed a contract with the Sugar Land Skeeters of the independent Atlantic League.

Clemens was hitting 87 mph with his fastball during a workout for the team on Monday and will make his starting debut on Saturday. The 50-year-old right-hander last appeared in a major league game in 2007 with the Yankees.

    Roger Clemens to pitch again

He's pitching this Saturday for a minor league team for the Astros. They say his fastball is clocked at 87 and he has a chance at making the Astros this September. I guess if he makes the team he will have to wait another 5 years. I'm hoping he doesn't break Greg Maddux's career wins record.

"I have the ultimate respect for Whitesox fans. They were as miserable as the Cubs and Redsox fans ever were but always had the good decency to keep it to themselves. And when they finally won the World Series, they celebrated without annoying every other fan in the country."--Jim Caple, ESPN (Jan. 12, 2011)

All he is doing is giving himself another 5 years to possibly have the HOF voters ease up on the PED allegations against him. It may be a smart move if you think about it.

It's not a minor league team for the Astros.

        It's independent I believe...

No, I don't think so. Graig Nettles played for the Senior Professional Baseball Association, for instance, and his voting schedule was normal.

What I meant to say is that he will push his eligibility back five years if he ended up back in the majors, even if all he threw was one pitch.

That is true, but that's also unlikely.

Clemens is not going to pitch in the majors ever again.

What could possibly be his motivation for pitching in an independent league? if he has the itch to compete again, why not just go back to the majors? I'm sure he could still be one of the better starters in the league.

Probably not, at age 50, he's got to be a long way from being in MLB condition. Wait, does he still have Brain McNamee's number?

But seriously, Greg Maddux has won more games than any man alive, but Clemens is only one behind him. I would hate to see him get two more wins.

I don't think you have to worry about Clemens passing Maddux.

I highly doubt this, even if he was taking every steroid known to man.

Look at what RA Dickey is doing this season with less.
