  • Felix Hernandez for 2012 AL Cy Young!

Can we crown the King now? Just give him the award why don't we!

Felix goes the distance tonight for his league leading 5th CG Shutout of the season!

    King Felix this year
    13-5 (.722 W%)
    ERA: 2.43 (1st in AL)
    IP: 196.2 (1st in AL)
    SO: 184 (3rd in AL)
    CG: 5 (2nd in AL)
    SHO: 5 (1st in AL)
    WHIP: 1.027 (Top 5)

Things may change between now and the end of the season but as of now, he is my AL Cy Young winner!

    home era 1.98
    road era 3.24

A 3.24 ERA is still dominant and would still be good enough for 6th best ERA in the American League. And it's ok to have a home-field advantage.

He deff took over the number 1 spot with Price getting hit hard last night. It's probably going to be between Verlander and Felix Hernandez when it's all said and done.

except when your home is a true pitchers park

If a pitcher leads the league in both ERA and IP I'd need a really good reason NOT to pick him for the CYA.

                Acutally it is:

                Home ERA: 1.98
                Roal ERA: 2.92

So he has a Sub-3.00 ERA on the road and now would be good for 5th in the AL. As it is, he is 1st in the AL in ERA.

^ what if another pitcher had nearly as many innings pitched and nearly as good an ERA but pitched in a MUCH more diffficult home environment compared to the above who pitched in possibly a true pitchers paradise

only because the stats were updated after yesterdays game

                        Verlander 2012

                        Home ERA: 1.75
                        Road ERA: 3.21

                        ???

                        Weaver 2012

                        Home ERA: 2.36
                        Road ERA: 3.06

                        ???

                        Price 2012

                        Home ERA: 1.66
                        Road ERA: 3.41

Everyone single one of the the top pitchers in the AL have a significant Home ERA advantage. This is expected, nothing wrong with it either. In fact, Felix has the best Road ERA of the above mentioned 3... and he doesn't have the best Home ERA either.

So are you saying that one should not have the lowest possible Home ERA? So if Felix were to give up a few extra runs in his next home start he would be a better pitcher??

As it is, Felix is leading the league in ERA (not ERA+). We do understand that he has an advantage by pitching in Seattle for a lot of his starts. But just in case you missed it, his start yesterday (the 5 hit, Complete Game, Shutout), was on the Road. This was his 5th Shutout of the season and 3rd of this month! In fact, look back at his first start on August 4th, another 1-0 Shutout against the Yankees AT Yankee Stadium (that too is on the road...).

Again, one of the best at home and one of the best on the road, making him....THE BEST altogether.
