See a trend here. Shortstops plays while they can defend. Jeter has never defended well, and he won those gold gloves because A-Rod defended 3rd base and 1/4 of the SS to allow Jeter to shift to second base (his glary weakness). This still pisses me off. A-Rod should've been holding all these SS records, not an inferior player as Jeter. But hey, he wanted it.

Anyway, congratulations to Derek Jeter for playing shortstop even when he's not the best option there. (Backhanded compliment)
Just so you know - I am not a Jeter fan or a Yankees fan. I really wish Farrell would have played Omar more this year at shortstop and at other infield positions since this is probably the last year he'll be playing. Farrell's playing Hechevaria, straight up out of the minors at 3B and batting around .150, instead of playing Omar there to fill in for the injured Lawrie was like a slap in the face to Vizquel. Vizquel would have reached 3,000 games played and 2,900 hits this year if he had a manager who didn't feel that keeping Vizquel on the roster was like a millstone around his neck.

I've never been a big Jeter fan but I was never a Jeter hater either. I'm a Giants fan and more of an NL guy so I don't really follow AL teams that much. But I'm starting to appreciate Jeter's career more and more as he climbs the all-time hit list. I hope he does reach 4,000 hits. He's on pace for his 8th 200-hit season. I believe only Pete Rose, Ty Cobb, and Ichirio have more. Lou Gehrig and Paul Waner (Paul Waner?) also had eight 200-hit seasons.

Derek Jeter passed Ozzie Smith this week on the list for most career games at Shortstop and is now #3 in games at that posiion all-time.
    The top four are now:

    1. Omar Vizquel 2708 games at SS
    2. Luis Aparicio 2581 games at SS
    3. Derek Jeter 2513 games at SS
    4. Ozzie Smith 2511 games at SS

Assuming Omar Vizquel retires after this season, Jeter is playing at a pace where he will likely break Vizquel's record very early in the 2014 season.
