homer this month. Bill Jenkinson will make a presentation.

In celebration this site chronicles a large body of the rhetoric that followed his home run.

Nice to see so many accounts of that moment in one place (Jenkinson's "The Called Shot" article at the link). I love how The Babe made that "pushing" motion back towards the Cubs' bench with both hands between second and third base after the "Called Shot" home run.

Does it matter if he called the shot.I don't think he said that in any words. But what he did was more than enough.
It was so evident that it was the battle of the wills, the Cub bench and a partisan crowd of Cub fans, against The Babe hooting The Babe and even tossing a few lemons on the field when he came to bat.

Babe still talking, even down two strikes. Who would have the last word.

Is it possible those that claim they saw Babe point to centerfied saw this.
Easy to understand that if he did point at the pitcher who is aligned with centerfield, they could have mistaked that for a point to centerfield.

According to Gehrig who was on deck Babe blasted Root before hitting the home run.
Gehrig on deck said Babe yelled at Root, words to this effect...........I'm going to knock the next pitch down your goddamn throat.
