  • has the champage shower met it's dismise in baseball

today (sept. 20) the REDS became the 1st team to make the playoff this year (2012)
    yet, a strange thing happen.
there was NO wild celebration, nor the usual champagne shower in the locker room

    what gives???????????????

is it that with two wildcard teams MLB will now only allow the celebration for
    winning the division and beyond

or maybe the Reds did not care and will celebrate when they do win the division at home
in the next day or so

I don't think every team had a champagne celebration in recent years. Perhaps the Reds will have one when they clinch the division?

With a "hooray, we made the 5-game division series" there really is no need for a celebration, unless it's a first-time thing like it is for the Nats. I'm surprised they had "playoffs" hats for the Nats and Reds. If I was a fan of those teams, I'd wait for the division champions merchandise. The champagne celebrations should be for the Pennant or the World Series. Even division championships seem unworthy of champagne with the 3rd division nowadays.

It was probably on it's way out when that mean ol' Deion Sanders electrocuted Tim McCarver.

Tim never really recovered, did he?

Well the Reds only clinched the wild card spot not the division yet right? So maybe they are saving the real celebration for winning the division.
Lets Go Yankees, Valley Cats, Dutchmen, UT Spartans and ECU Pirates.

Only 1/3 of teams make the playoffs - it is still a big deal and they should celebrate. I am sure many Pirate fans would be celebrating big time if they got a WC slot at this point.

                  Probably.

It would be different if the Wild Card was the best you were likely to achieve.
But if you knew the Divisional Championship was almost guaranteed just around the corner, it would make sense to wait for that.

                    I'll break open a bottle of champagne on the 82nd win...it seemed like a sure thing a month ago...now, it's a huge ??????.

They'd settle for a winning season....it's looking less and less likely.

I think there's two appropriate times for this type of celebration: getting to the World Series and winning the World Series.
