  • 2012 Gold Gloves and Silver Sluggers

Hey guys. I'm new here (although I have been lurking for a while). And yes, I am a Braves fan.

For my inaugural post, I would like to get your opinion on who you believe will win this year's gold gloves and silver sluggers. Here are my predictions:

    AL
C- Avila (GG) and Mauer (SS)
    1B-Teixeira (GG) and Fielder (SS)
    2B- Cano (GG and SS)
3B- Beltre (GG) and Cabrera (SS)
SS- Ryan (GG) and Jeter (SS)
LF/OF- Gordon (GG) and Hamilton (SS)
    CF/OF- Trout (GG and SS)
RF/OF- Suzuki (GG) and Rios (SS)
    DH- Encarnacion (SS)
    P- Masterson (GG)

    NL
C- Molina (GG) and Posey (SS)
    1B- Belt (GG) and Votto(SS)
2B- Barney (GG) and Phillips (SS)
3B- Wright (GG) and Headley (SS)
SS- Furcal (GG) and Desmond (SS)
LF/OF- Prado (GG) and Braun (SS)
CF/OF- Bourn (GG) and McCutchen (SS)
RF/OF- Heyward (GG) and Holliday (SS)
P- Buerhle (GG) and Leake (SS)

Ichiro didn't win it last year, so I think his run is over.

If Jeter wins at SS I will laugh, he was arguably the worst in the league ...But it wouldn't surprise me.

Austin Jackson probably deserves the GG more than Trout, but we all know the GG is a hitting award more than a fielding award.
    My top 10 players:

    1. Babe Ruth
    2. Barry Bonds
    3. Ty Cobb
    4. Ted Williams
    5. Willie Mays
    6. Alex Rodriguez
    7. Hank Aaron
    8. Honus Wagner
    9. Lou Gehrig
    10. Mickey Mantle

Does SS stand for Shortstop (in reference to Gold Glove) or Silver Slugger? Because he led AL shortstops in AVG, OBP, SLG.

Of course he was the best hitter. I meant if he wins the GG at SS.

If Jeter wins a Gold Glove, a lot of people need their BBWAA memberships revoked...

In the AL, I'd give the GG to JJ Hardy and I don't think it's really close.

I think Brendan Ryan deserves a little recognition in this area. He might be the most underrated Defensive player in baseball. The guy can pick it.

I agree, he's got a good glove though I have to admit that being on the east coast I haven't seen him much.

That said, Hardy was top of every statistic for those who choose counting stats (which I'm certain a large percentage of BBWAA still does).

Hardy was #1 at SS in:

                    Chances
                    Putouts
                    Assists
                    Double Plays
                    Fielding Percentage

He was #2 in Range Factor and had the fewest errors while having the most chances. His abilitly to play and stay healthy could be a reason the O's were so successful in those low-scoring and extra-inning games.
