  • Jeter out for remainder of year

Derek Jeter fractured his ankle tonight and will be out of action for at least 3 months!

No matter how good you are, you're going to lose one-third of your games. No matter how bad you are you're going to win one-third of your games. It's the other third that makes the difference. ~Tommy Lasorda

Apart of me makes me want to laugh at the yankees misfortune. But that wouldn't be right as Jeter is the lone Yankee who has my utmost respect but that is a tough way to get knocked out of the PS.

The fact that you would laugh at someone that you didn't respect getting injured makes me lose some respect for you.

And how is Jeter the only Yankee to have your respect? What about Mo?

Any halfway decent short stop wouldn't have had to dive for that ball.

Laugh at someone? I said Yankees as in the team that isn't someone that is an Organization. Your respect means little to me.

Laughing at the Yankees over this would require laughing at Jeter getting injured since it is the catalyst of your laughter.....

With Nix likely taking Jeter's place, the Yanks will lose a little offensively and gain a little defensively. It's basically a wash.

Not to worry, the Yankees have won the same percentage of games over his career when he hasn't been in the lineup.

Yep, in fact their record is slightly better without him.

I thought it was like 60.3% (with) to 60.2% (without), but maybe I have it backwards.

How ironic... the only two Yankees I actually have a lot of respect for (Jeter and Mo Rivera) had their seasons end with leg injuries, but it is the rest of the lineup that is swinging the bat in a very lame fashion. What is Cano, 0-for-the postseason? A-Rod? Granderson? Swisher? Looks like Ibanez will have to step it up to carry the team much further.

I see the end of Jeter's season foreshadowing the end of the Yankees' season.

Hopefully Miggy can add a World Series win to his resume this year as well.

I'm never glad to see a player get seriously hurt, but then again I don't want to be one of those bearing false sympathies for the downfall of an opponent. So Jeter will miss the rest of the post-season. Them's the breaks. I'm hoping the rest of the post-season for his team is all of 3 games.

As for respecting ballplayers, well...let's just say I respect Jeter's ability enough to be pleasantly surprised that he won't be finishing the series. It takes the 'phantom hit by pitch' out of the Yankees' offensive arsenal.

The comment abot diving for the ball is apt. Jeter's range is poor... Visually AND statistically proven. The range comment is completely at the other end of the spectrum from the "Ha-Ha Jeter's hurt" comment and should not be lumped together.

Wouldn't it be nice for the Yankees if the Granderson/Austin Jackson trade could be reversed?

Don't forget about the Cardinals & Giants. Either of them are easily capable of beating the Tigers.
Holding a pitcher accountable for how many runs his team scores is like holding the designated hitter accountable for how many runs his team allows.

An individual statistic is meaningful only if it is based strictly on what the player does and not on what the other players on his team do.

Contrary to what most baseball fans claim, a pitched ball which is hit into play is not a strike.
