  • NLCS - Holliday's slide over the bag and into Scutaro

Plenty of attention being placed on the Cardinal's Matt Holliday's slide beyond 2B and into the Giants Scutaro in Game Two. In your mind, does the slide equate to any major fouls found in other sports?

Or it is comparable to the types of fouls that result in any of the choices above? Vote for as many as you feel like or vote the other way.

No how is Baseball slide anything like you find in Basketball Football on any level Hockey or Soccer. I think its insane to say it has anything to do with other sports and the play itself is dirty IMHO.

Soccer tackles are VERY similar. Tripping occurs in hockey as well as other far more major fouls. Football includes fouls specifically to do with the lower body as well as head shots and rules surrounding them.

Of course no linebacker is going to fly into Peyton Manning feet first in the exact same way Holliday went over second base, but does Holliday's actions EQUATE to the types of fouls that result in the choices above?

Ejections in other sports, or even banishment from entire tournaments?

Not in my mind they don't.... In Hockey you fight with fists... Football you tackle not slide unless you are a QB and well unless you count the flopping then neither does Basketball.

I agree... You're not understanding the question...

I am not asking you if the SAME "slide" would result in a foul in other sports, as the other sports are played differently and that type of comparison would be idiotic. I am asking you to think about what WOULD get you thrown out of the World Cup entirely, tossed from a NHL game, a NFL game, or NBA game. Maye its a punch, an extremely hard foul, a blindside, or blow to the head. Others you have seen, etc

The types of transgressions which result in the poll choices in other sports... Is the slide by Holliday in the same league as those types of acts?

Well that is what would get you ejected from a NFL game so tell me if that slide is to the same extent. I would disagree.

I am disagreeing with trying to say this is similar to other sports its not each sport has its own set of rules to combat dirty plays.

For the same reason all polls are posted... To gather opinion. Or at least all good polls, which include options from both sides of the spectrum as well as middle ground.

Because in the NLCS thread it was claimed that the slide would have warranted the above punishments...but of course no proof offered up..

In hockey, it happens all the time, it's called a body check, I believe. Then they beat the crap out of each other while the officials stand around and watch to make sure nobody breaks the rules.
They call me Mr. Baseball. Not because of my love for the game; because of all the stitches in my head.
