Shorten the regular season OR shorten the playoffs!

An MLB regular-season + post-season is too long!

162 games + 4 Best of 5 series + 2 Best of 7 series + 1 Best of 7 series.

All this extends April to November, that's 8 months.

I am exhausted, and I am confident that I am not alone (see recent World Series ratings).

Either shorten the MLB season to, say, 140 games. Or remove the NLDS and start with the NLCS.

The status-quo is unsustainable.

The post season as currently constructed is a flat out joke in my opinion. Completely worthless. I love baseball, I'm a new fan to the sport, but the playoffs didn't interest me one iota. I've said this before: Shorten the regular season by a third and extend the post season to four 9 game series (To give the post season much greater weight) or scrap the playoffs entirely.

April through October is shorter in months than the NBA or NHL. NFL takes a month or more to get through its playoffs and championship.

Me too. Im sad today because no more baseball until March, and no meaningful games until April. Thats a long time from now.

I don't see any reason to shorten the season. If anything I'd make it longer. I don't understand anyone calling themselves a true baseball fan wanting less baseball. I want more, not less.

Well, it is 144 games now. So, maybe they did.

I'd love to see the season shortend by about 20 games, and a few more days off. So, basically start a week later and end a week sooner. 3 game play-in for the wildcards, and back to best of 5 for NLCS and ALCS. Just my opinion.

Although I'm all for the 3-5-7 best-of's for the postseason, I'm also for adding more games to the season. But it's gotta be reasonable. Something like 170 or 172.

In 1961, the American League went from eight teams to ten. It also lengthened its season from 154 games to 162. The National League did the same thing the following year due to its two new teams. Two new teams in each league, and the season was extended by eight games.

Fast forward to 2012. MLB has gone from twenty teams to thirty teams. Ten more teams since 1969 (literally raising the total by a full 33%), three divisions, plus interleague play, yet the schedule is still 162 games. Makes no sense.

I've a feeling the only thing standing in the way of expanded schedules is the Players' Union. After all, I'm sure the owners would be all for the extra patronage.
