Well I think hitting coaches are overrated and they usually don't change MLB hitters but still that would be a loss for the cards. not because he knows more about the swing than other coaches but because he is a hitting legend (even if he cheated) himself and thus gets more respect then most hitting coaches. If big mac speaks players are listening.

Can't say I like this. I respect him highly as a hitting coach, so this can't be good for the Giants. Giants would be well served going in another direction with their hitting coach as well. I'd love to see Will Clark working with the hitters on a daily basis.

That is exactly it. His wife and son, from his first marriage, live in Southern California, so he wants to be close to them.

Mac was born and raised in L.A., went to U.S.C., and has lived in Orange County for many years. It's always nice to work close to home.

The triplets were born in the same hospital (Missouri Baptist) as my oldest son the day before his birthday. We saw McGwire and his wife carting the three kids around the hospital.

well I don't think that the giants are changing anything in their coaching. they just won it all.

Not because their bats were so hot during the season, however. Or the many seasons before that.

^ you are aware the Giants led the league in runs in away games?

To illustrate the point here are the NL's top six in runs scored and their home-away breakdown

                          Brewers 437-339
                          Cards 404-361
                          Rockies 486-272
                          DBacks 376-312
                          Nationals 367-364
                          Giants 308-410

The Giants scored anywhere from 46 more runs on the road to 138 more runs on the road than the NL's top 5 offensive teams

as for 2011 - their best hitter was taken out on a dirty play 7 weeks into the season - all he did this year was win the MVP, the Hank Aaron award and hit 3 PS home runs

McGwire and the Dodgers - a perfect match (Yes we have NO concerns)

                          1. The more I learn, the more convinced I am that many players are over-rated due to inflated stats from offensive home parks (and eras)

I'm sure they won't, Hensley Meulens is a friend of Sabean's. Oh well, maybe they'll resign Scutaro. The entire team started having better situational at bats once he joined the team. It was like having another hitting coach, but this one leads by example and knows what he's talking about.

Actually bench coach Ron Wotus is up for the Rocks Mgr job, don't be surprised if he gets it. Plus hitting coach Bam Bam Muelens aims to be a manager too.
