  • Dodgers win bid for Ryu Hyun-Jin

So the Dodgers have about a month to complete a deal with the Korean pitcher after paying a posting fee. Is it true that Boras would rather he signs next year because he could make more money?

    Similar delivery as CC Sabathia.

Using a stolen chant from Boston Celtics fans whenever an L.A. team is playing up there just reeks of inferiority complex.

If hitting a baseball is the toughest thing to do in sports, then pitching must be the easiest thing to do in sports.

Bump. Keep all the discussions about Ryu Hyun-Jin, please. This is a real thread, not a trolling, baiting, and Dodger-bashing thread.

Tigers were among the bidders for Ryu.

The Detroit Tigers were among seven teams aggressively scouting South Korean starting pitcher Ryu Hyun-jin.

The amount of rosin flying off his hand at release is amazing. Huge quantities...

Some sources indicated he was a bit of a junkballer for lack of a better word...

A lefty relying on movement as much if not more than velocity or location. The video above seems to contradict that, no?

Update on the negotiations. The Dodgers' latest offer was rejected. Even if he doesn't get signed, the Dodgers did accomplish something by preventing him from negotiation with any other team (at least for this year).

ok, so los angeles did not sign ruy hyun-jin but got something for their nearly $26,000,000: he can not negotiate or sign with any other club.

$26,000,000 that ends up being spent as a preventative measure sounds kinda crazy to me.

The Dodgers have until 4pm CST today to sign him. If they do not, the $26MM bid is refunded.

                      Done deal:

L.A. bolstered its rotation with another arm, this one a promising prospect from South Korea.

"Fresh from their six-year, $147 million agreement with Zack Greinke, the Los Angeles Dodgers on Sunday signed another starting pitcher – South Korean left-hander Ryu Hyun-jin.

Ryu's contract is for $36 million over six seasons. If he pitches 750 or more innings over the first five years of the contract, he can opt out of the sixth year. He received a $5 million signing bonus and can earn up to $1 million annually in performance bonuses.

The Dodgers earned the negotiating rights for Ryu with a $25.7 million bid and had 30 days to come to an agreement. The deadline was 2 p.m. PT on Sunday. Agent Scott Boras represents Ryu.

Over seven seasons pitching for the Hanwha Eagles of the Korean Baseball Organization, Ryu, 25, was 98-52 with a 2.80 ERA. He led the league in strikeouts five times and in ERA twice.

He joins a rotation of Clayton Kershaw, Zack Greinke, Josh Beckett and one of Chad Billingsley, Aaron Harang and Chris Capuano."

I find it interesting that he can't be sent to the minors if he performs poorly. High risk, high reward signing.
