  • Big Marlins-Blue Jays Trade

According to Ken Rosenthal and Jon Paul Morosi the Blue Jays are close to sending Yunel Escobar and Adieny Hechavaria to Miami for Josh Johnson and Mark Buerhle. Rumors also say that Jose Reyes may be involved in the deal and more players are likely headed to Miami than just the two infielders.
Lets Go Yankees, Valley Cats, Dutchmen, UT Spartans and ECU Pirates.

    wow

    i mean big wow
    1. The more I learn, the more convinced I am that many players are over-rated due to inflated stats from offensive home parks (and eras)

Heard it in passing, but it sounded like Jose Reyes was involved as well.

            Ken Rosenthal‏@Ken_Rosenthal

Confirmed: Reyes going to #BlueJays. Henderson Alvarez also going to #Marlins.

Ken Rosenthal of FOXSports.com reports that the Blue Jays have acquired Jose Reyes, Josh Johnson, Mark Buerhle, Emilio Bonifacio and John Buck from the Marlins in exchange for Yunel Escobar, Adeiny Hechavarria, Henderson Alvarez, Jake Marisnick and Justin Nicolino.

            That's just sick.

The Marlins have become such a joke. They panicked fast after one disappointing season. You can get away with that if your franchise has a deep history. But it's gonna take a while before free agents are willing to sign there.
Using a stolen chant from Boston Celtics fans whenever an L.A. team is playing up there just reeks of inferiority complex.

Every offseason needs that one big trade that keeps people busy until spring training. Especially in years where the Free Agent pool isnt real deep.

Sounds like this might be that trade.

Immediate Edit: It is that trade.

With acquriing Buck, I guess Arencebia moves to 1B with D'Arnaud (sp?) coming up? He has nothing more to prove in the minors.

They're also very likely to have the largest drop in attendance for a second-year ballpark. How perfect would it be if Mark Cuban were able to buy them?

EDIT: Barring some ridiculous FA signings (which isn't likely), using my simpleton math, the Marlins' payroll will drop from $100M+ in 2012 to about $20M in 2013.

Wasn't their new park publicly funded? What a waste of tax payers' money.

Yet another salary dump by the Marlins. Sad day to be a Marlins fan.

If I'm in the City of Miami government, I'm looking for ways to sue the Marlins.
