Good read and spot on Miami owners as well has Bud share responsibility.....
I'd love to see Selig thrown out- and based on a lot of stuff, not just this- but with the amount of money at stake growing and growing, it's never going to happen. I love baseball, but I'm incredibly sad for it.Found in a fortune cookie On Thursday, August 18th, 2005: "Hard words break no bones, Kind words butter no parsnips."

The fans end up paying one way or another.

After reading the following article I have to agree that Loria is some piece of work and may have struck a possible death knell for baseball in the Miami area. I would be very surprised if they get many fans to the games this year.

mlb radio summarized:
1) Loria signed a bunch of players last year that on paper looked like he was investing
2) the contracts all were void of "no trade" clauses which are quite common in mlb
3) pujols in fact would not sign with florida in part because of the refusal to include no trade clauses
4) all the contracts were back loaded so they first year was much cheaper than the remaining years
5) he duped the city and citizens into a huge cash windfall re the stadium
6) he then dumped the contracts and players after paying a very small part of the contract (see #4)
7) it is assumed this was his plan all along due to the exclusion of no trade clauses and the back loaded contracts
scum of the earth1. The more I learn, the more convinced I am that many players are over-rated due to inflated stats from offensive home parks (and eras)

$34 million tied up in Reyes and Buehrle after the upcoming season? Yeah, I would have gotten those contracts off the books now too. None of these guys dealt had great years. Hell, the only reason Johnson was still around was because the league publicly shamed the Marlins 2 years ago for not investing in their payroll. He would be coming off the books after next season anyways...as is Buck and Bonifacio is straight garbage.
We all know why they threw money around wrecklessly last off season.
I stand by my comments pertaining to earlier dealings from a previous thread too....
Who did they trade at the top of their game? Gabby has given them 2 half seasons worth of good ball. Hanley hasn't done jack since 2010 and that year was a drop off from his 3 previous and for doing jack he was making $15 million per. Infante was having an average year at $4 millions. Anibal wasn't worth his $8 million paycheck(free to move on after the season). Volstad has been a bust, as had Dominguez. Was it worth keeping Choate around when he turns 37 before the season is over and is a free agent after?

this is a great move for the Marlins because Jose Reyes is due for another injury plagued season and Josh Johnson isn't what he used to be
meanwhile they get some nice cuban prospects from Toronto to help draw Cuban fans out to the games
