  • News Corp. Acquires Stake In YES Network

    Linky

Can't say I'm at all happy about Rupert Murdoch getting his claws into Yankee baseball in any form. What's going to happen to YES - turn into tabloid crap like Murdoch spews out?

No good will come of this.
The Mets have the best, smartest fans in baseball.

Probably because Rupert Murdoch is perceived as the devil incarnate in the New York media.

Yeah but how is that going to effect the team? Does he now have the ability to affect trades and free agent signings, and things like that?

Obviously not. News Corp just wants a piece of the Yankee pie. Nothing wrong with that.

Look at the kind of trash that Murdoch puts out. Would you want your team's network turned into a tabloid?

                Perceived? Only perceived?

Mountain out of a molehill. You're acting like he'll stage a hostile takeover, print a bunch of "A-ROD SUCKS-ROD" newspapers and TV reports and laugh all the way to the bank, kicking puppies and old ladies along the way.

^ Wouldn't surprise me in the least. With Rupert Murdoch, anything is possible.

I mean, you are aware of his reputation, yes? The tabloids? The phone hacking? Everybody knows that's what he does. Would you want the same person behind The Sun and News Of The World to get anywhere near YOUR team's network?

Earlier this year, the Murdoch-owned New York Post published a story on the Mets creating a quiet zone at Citi Field. The Post wrote a story on it without research and with some random quotes from fans without requesting comment from the Mets.

                      Here is the story:
Quiet please, the Mets are trying to play baseball. The Amazin’s are silently floating plans for a “designated quiet-seating section” in Citi Field. The team e-mailed a survey to fans yesterday, as…

Left unmentioned in this story was the rationale: the Mets wanted to create a quiet section for autistic children.

I also dislike the incoherent writing of Joel Sherman, a Post columnist who suggested the Mets were the biggest loser of the Red Sox-Dodgers trade back in August.
The Mets have the best, smartest fans in baseball.

Murdoch better not get rid of Michael Kay or any of the YES Network broadcasters. (Well except for Sweet Lou. )

I would not mind seeing Kay go.

I wish Murdoch would have gone after the White Sox instead so he could fire Harrelson!

I assume you're aware that News Corp. has broadcast the last 13 World Series as well as national and regional regular season games since the mid 90s--not to mention their NFL coverage since 1993.

MLB and the NFL have been in bed with Murdoch for many years now.

Many teams already have their local games on FOX owned networks. What's the big deal?

The Dodgers and Angels both have their games on News Corp. owned channels. There's nothing "tabloid" about their broadcasts, it's just a normal baseball broadcast.

I see great things in baseball. It's our game - the American game.
