  • Giants Re-Sign Pagan...

    Four years / $40M.

Thank you! Thank you! Thank you!

I really did not like seeing the Phils linked to him. Then again, the remaining options available on the FA market aren't all that appealing.

Wow, that seems like a lot for a marginal player in his 30's. Quintessential Sabean signing.
    My top 10 players:

    1. Babe Ruth
    2. Barry Bonds
    3. Ty Cobb
    4. Ted Williams

Totally agree. I wanted no part of a 30+ year old whose whole game relies on his legs.

Sabean would call him a 'proven winner' or a 'gamer'

Unfortunately, it's one of those things that sometimes happens when you make it to - or win - the WS. You, as a GM, need to show the fans you're still looking to keep on winning and you tend to re-sign players who were on that championship team, even against better judgement. Last time the Giants won, i believe they re-signed Aubrey Huff - who was due FA at the time.

I agree he is only making 5 mill less then Upton and he hardily seems close to as good as upton.

While Pagan was better than Upton in 2012, Upton is younger and has more talent and upside. He's gone 20/30 in each of the last 2 seasons. Only he and Braun have done that. He just needs to improve his plate discipline to reach his potential.

One of the only FAs I wanted to see signed here in Philly as he adds so much this team needs - speed, power and RH-balance to the lineup. I've been saying for 2+ years that some team will reap the rewards of him coming into his own. Looks like it'll be the Braves as I still think he can put up some really nice power/speed seasons.

So no Michael Bourne to SF? Unless one of the two would play LF. I wanted Pagan gone since this guy is just another Randy Winn - random guy who always kills the Dodgers.
Using a stolen chant from Boston Celtics fans whenever an L.A. team is playing up there just reeks of inferiority complex.

If hitting a baseball is the toughest thing to do in sports, then pitching must be the easiest thing to do in sports.

Yeah that Brian Sabean doesn't know anything

What have the Giants ever accomplished?
                    1. The more I learn, the more convinced I am that many players are over-rated due to inflated stats from offensive home parks (and eras)

Pagan was one of three players that Giants management was unanimous in prioritizing in re-signing

the deal is 7 mil, 9 mil 9 mil 10 mil with a 5 mil signing bonus

                      Two down one to go

having Lincecum return to anything close to his capabilities will be like a free bonus and unlike most pitchers he is not returning from a damaging injury just a very un-Lincecum like year

first Upton is getting 75.5 million, Pagan 40 million (I less year)

                        Upton has a .298 OB% and 169 K's on his 2012 resume

                        that is scary bad

basically the only thing upton is better at is hitting home runs and in case you are not aware, ATT Park is anathema to HR hitters

The Giants love his game which matches perfectly to their home park

Being a switch hitter is helpful too

In ROAD games, Pagan outslugged Upton .468 to .408

7 of Pagan's 8 HR were also hit in road parks

                            75 mil vs 40 mil

the giants got the player they wanted at a market price that was pretty good (36 year old Torii Hunter 26 mil for 2 years? ouch)
