  • Lenny Dykstra sentenced

Well he got 6 and a half months and has to pay 200,000 in restituition along with a ton of community service. In a way I think he might have learned his lesson and since he will have a fresh start i'm hoping he does good when he gets out.

It's a good sign for him that his ex wife and son showed up for his sentencing because I always heard he was estranged from both of them.
"(Shoeless Joe Jackson's fall from grace is one of the real tragedies of baseball. I always thought he was more sinned against than sinning." -- Connie Mack

"I have the ultimate respect for Whitesox fans. They were as miserable as the Cubs and Redsox fans ever were but always had the good decency to keep it to themselves. And when they finally won the World Series, they celebrated without annoying every other fan in the country."--Jim Caple, ESPN (Jan. 12, 2011)

I have always known from the time of his Mets heyday that Dykstra was a destructive personality asking for trouble. Ever try reading his "book" that came out after the 86 season? It's the voice of an immature man-child who can't utter a sentence without working the f-word in. Pearlman's book on the 86 season reveals a juvenile nut prone to rude practical jokes on innocent bystanders that shouldn't be regarded as the least bit funny (if you do that to a teammate in the spirit of building camaraderie, okay I can buy that, but when an athlete behaves like an obnoxious boor in public he should be thought of as such). It's clear that he never learned how to act like a responsible adult once in his life, and now he's paying the ultimate price.

Every time I think of Dykstra I think of the passage in Moneyball where he's sitting next to Billy Beane in the Mets' dugout asking what kind of stuff Steve Carlton has.

I always thought of Dykstra as kind of a Pete Rose Lite, on and off the field.

Rose has not gone to the depths Dykstra has off the field. Dykstra is in Denny McLain territory there.

I have to second that since Rose served time and after reading the Dowd Report.

Dykstra wishes he stopped at the level Rose did.

If what con artist Dykstra did makes him "lite", I hate to think what a player has to do to be worse than Rose short of murdering somebody.

Jeez, OK I take it back! I'm sorry I sullied the good and honorable name of Pete Rose. But it's not exactly apples and oranges, is it?

Fine, and please accept my admitance I took more offense than I should have. Rose has a sullied name, but at least he was his own biggest victim. Rose is the kind of apple you get from those three-pound bags. Dykstra is the kind that's about a buck a pound.

I thought he got off easy this time, just like I thought he got off easy on his original sentence. I hope the next time he gets arrested, and there will be a next time, they really crack down on him.
