  • Don't Sleep on the Blue Jays

    1. Reyes [6]
    2. Cabrera [7] Whatever, him or Davis. I might rather Davis in the 9 spot with Bonifacio in the 2 hole.
    3. Bautista [9] Must stay healthy.
    4. Encarnacion [DH] Was last year a fluke [or PED's] or can he focus better as DH?
    5. Lawrie [5] Hope he keeps improving.
    6. Rasmus [8] Has is attitude, plate approach improved?
    7. Lind [3] Must stay healthy.
    8. Arencibia [2]
    9. Bonifacio [4] Hasn't played a ton at second which worries me a bit.

Bench - Rajai Davis, Macier Izturis, Tony Gose, David Cooper

    1. Johnson
    2. Buehrle [L]
    3. Dickey
    4. and 5. Morrow, Romero [L], Happ [L], Drabek

Bullpen - Oliver [L], Loup [L], Hutchinson, Delabar, Lincoln, Rogers, Santos, Cecil [L]
    Closer - Janssen

They have some youth. Guys who have played together, came up together. Know the organizations philosophy. A lot of potential. Guys with something to prove. Plus proven, experienced arms. Athletic up the middle. Power on the corners.

I'm assuming they will get Dickey. I think it is a dumb trade [especially when they could just sign Lohse] but regardless of whether they make it or not I believe the Blue Jays will be a force to be reckoned with. I think the fact that the pressure is more on the Angels and Tigers plus the bold print above makes them my personal favorite to win the AL pennant.

    Thoughts?

I am still not worried when the Rays played Miami last year they lit buehrle up and also beat Johnson.......

But it does make them better assuming these guys play up to par.....

The Blue Jays acquire R.A. Dickey, Josh Thole and a prospect for Travis d'Arnaud, Noah Syndergaard, John Buck and a prospect

Do Buehrle and Johnson traditionally not pitch well against the Rays?

Definitely. I would have never guessed that the Blue Jays would load up like they have.

Not the last few years anyways. Buehrle was with the WS And the Rays have experience with that. But RA is the one i am worried about. I think Encarnacion will have a drop off IMHO

              Why, because he's a knuckleballer?

Yea I can't see Encarnacion matching those numbers.

they have improved a lot however don't forget they won 73 last season. that means they have to add at least 20 wins (likely more) to make the PS. adding 20 wins by free agency in one season is very rare. usually teams that improve like that show some upside already before they add free agents (because their home grown core is starting to hit their prime).

I don't think we will see a second 2012 marlins (I said the same about them last season) but I don't see them winning more than 86 in 2013.

Buehrle pitched well against them on July 23, 2009.

Agreed...why now is ownership spending like this? I am not up to date on jays ownership...has something changed as to why they believe spending like this is the path to go on?

Is not like the Rays or Jays don't have money.... Both of the owners of these teams are worth hundreds of millions if not billions.....

Knickleballers typically don't have the drop offs other pitchers do and can hang around longer. RA seems like the wildcard for the Jays..... I also think the Jays are loading up because just about all of the Jays starting pitchers got injured last year.

How'd you feel about Bautista after 2010?
