  • If there is another single season home run race?

If two players or more start chasing barry bonds record for most home runs in a season will steroids automatically be brought up and if the record is broken will people ask for that player to volunteer for more testing? As it gotten so bad that we can no longer accept a legitimate run a records anymore will people automatically jump to PEDs as the cause.

For this reason, I wonder how many players actually would NOT want to challenge Bond's record.

Unless there is some drastic change in the rulebook or to the balls or ballparks, I don't believe it is physically possible to hit 73 home runs without PEDs.
      My top 10 players:

      1. Babe Ruth
      2. Barry Bonds
      3. Ty Cobb
      4. Ted Williams
      5. Willie Mays
      6. Alex Rodriguez
      7. Hank Aaron
      8. Honus Wagner
      9. Lou Gehrig
      10. Mickey Mantle

If the Babe, the Mick, Willie Mays, or Hank Aaron couldnt do it, nobody can.

If a guy with Ruthian power played in Coors or another major hitter's park in a high run-environment era, I don't see why it can't be done. Just unlikely for all of those pieces to fall into place.

Who knows what baseball will evolve to down the road? 50 years from now it could be commonplace for a hitter to hit .400.

Oh, it's possible. Look at Josh Hamilton's first two months. If he stayed that hot for the year, he surpasses it.

I wouldn't put Aaron in that mix. He was never an elite single-season home run hitter.

Nobody stays that hot for a whole year.

He didn't have to. He was on pace for like 80 or 90. The problem is, there really aren't any elite power hitters out there.

The last non-PED player to hit even 60 in a season was Roger Maris 52 years ago, so yes, somebody hitting 74 in a season would be under a cloud of suspicion.
They call me Mr. Baseball. Not because of my love for the game; because of all the stitches in my head.

He would have to volunteer for testing. 73 HR is pretty hard for a clean player to hit. Ryan Howard playing for the Yankees in 2006 might have been able to hit it. Maybe. 62 is more likely and all that matters to me.
"No matter how great you were once upon a time — the years go by, and men forget,” - W. A. Phelon in Baseball Magazine in 1915. “Ross Barnes, forty years ago, was as great as Cobb or Wagner ever dared to be. Had scores been kept then as now, he would have seemed incomparably marvelous.”

Even if we allowed full blown steroids to be legal, I don't see anyone hitting 70+. Frankly, PED's or not, no one playing today is as good of a power hitter as Mark McGwire was.

Citizen's Bank was more of a bandbox than Yankee Stadium was.

I don't think it is possible to even hit 62 clean. pitchers are just a lot better in These days and they use a lot of scouting.

even if one would have the Talent he would see nothing in his happy zone and also walk a ton (just like it happened to bonds after his 73 year)
I now have my own non commercial blog about training for batspeed and power using my training experience in baseball and track and field.
