  • Braves to acquire Justin Upton

The Braves and Diamondbacks have agreed to a trade that will send Justin Upton to Atlanta, Jon Heyman of CBSSports.com reports (on Twitter). The deal is pending physicals for the players involved.

The teams are still working through the final details of the deal, which will send Randall Delgado to Arizona.

Upton and Chris Johnson to ATL
Prado, Delgado, Ahmed and Spruill to AZ

Not sure I like this deal that much for ATL...off the top of my head.

I'll think about it more when I have time

Yowch, I guess they really freaked out about a long-term extension from Prado. And I guess that means Chris Johnson will be given a shot to start at third.

Be that as it may, I like the deal generally. Teheran was the pitcher to keep and Ahmed and Spruill were expendable.

I still don't know why Arizona is dumping Justin Upton. Perhaps a makeup issue?

Did Upton have to waive his NTC? Oh, and he does end up playing with big bro after all.

Using a stolen chant from Boston Celtics fans whenever an L.A. team is playing up there just reeks of inferiority complex.

If hitting a baseball is the toughest thing to do in sports, then pitching must be the easiest thing to do in sports.

Looks like the Upton brothers will rule Atlanta this year... Good move for the Braves. And they didn't even have to part with Tehran. The NL East looks tough this year with the Nats and Braves fighting for #1, and Philly making a run with their pitching - but can their offense hold up?

They have a ton of outfielders - none are super outstanding, however. I kind of have the feeling that they see Upton as an underachiever.

It runs in the family, seemingly.

I still think of Upton as a Ken Griffey Jr. kind of talent. He already has two very strong seasons under his belt and I think he's young enough to improve and take his game to another level.

Who moves to left field? Upton or Heyward?

Sounding like Upton will be playing LF with Chris Johnson spllitting time at 3B with Juan Francisco. 6 of their starting 8 could easily surpass 20 HRs this season. All that really remains is who'll lead off for them.

Both upton brothers in Atlanta this should make for a interesting Season. Not to mention you can't have a much better OF Then that. Both brothers are great defensively and both have great speed and cannons of arms.

I think Johnson will do a fine job for the Braves, and that will be an interesting OF to watch this season. Another really good team getting better. That NL East will be fun to watch again!

Johnson and Fransico will likely platoon with good results.

The Braves probably need to sign a veteran starter in case Teheran isn't ready. Not too concerned about losing Delgado.

I will miss Prado but this would have been his last year.

I don't recall the last time two brothers were regulars on the same club.

The Ripken brothers were the last duo? Even then Billy wasn't a starter to my knowledge.
