  • Creating new historical Sim League

I am creating a new league with well-liked and HoF players on the teams for OOTP and I was wondering what players I should put on the teams. I'm starting with the teams in the ML in 1901 but I wouldn't mind teams that came into existence later.

If I can get this done in the next month or so I'll try to make it downloadable if anyone's interested.

I wish somebody would post stuff but I'm gonna check the other team sites and get the opinions on the all-time teams. People can post players they liked if they want. I just want some help doing this. If no one's interested, just tell me and I'll ignore this thread from now on.

      I would be very interested.
I think, therefore I love the Dodgers.

Okay... would you like to help with Brooklyn? As of right now, I have school and 15 other teams to work on.

My schedule is so hectic that it will be more than a month to get it all complete.

Hello, good luck with the project!

My first question would be, are you going to do one team per player? And if so, are you aiming to even the teams out talent-wise or would you put the players where they most make sense?

I'm making just a 25 player all-time team. The players are going on the team that they played the most time for. If they couldn't get inducted into the hall of fame with a team, they're not gonna be on th all-time team. For instance, Dennis Eckersley could be on the A's all-time team but not the Indians' or Red Sox's all-time teams. The teams used are also the teams in existence in 1901. Hope that answers your question. By the way, it will be a week or two before I get restarted on the project. Anyone is welcome to help me if they want however.

I've been interested in leagues of all time franchise all stars since I was a kid an had the Sports Illustrated All-Time All-Star game (see http://www.innova.net/~randycox/SSBHistory.htm for discussion). I bought Stormfront Studios' Old Time Baseball in the 1990's and created a "universe" with updates of the old SI rosters. Sadly, Old Time Baseball requires video and audio drivers that are not included on computers past Windows 95/98. In recent years I have been playing Diamond Legends ( http://legends.stats.com ), but am looking for a new sim challenge. I am considering purchasing Diamond Mind with the All Time Greatest Players disk to update my old league once again and stumbled on this thread.

Attached for your consideration is a zip with text files of 40-50 man rosters for each of the 16 "original" franchises updated to the present.

I am curious as to how you plan to create your league in OOTB, since this is a much cheaper option than Diamond Mind. Diamond Mind's All Time Greatest Players has done the job of establishing peak performances over a multi-season period AND "normalized" the performances of players from different eras so that they are comparable. Old Time Baseball had "Time Machine" feature to adjust teams from different seasons to make them comparable. Does OOTB have such a feature?

I'm sorry i haven't posted for a while. College applications, school, and the holidays have been time-consuming. What I'm gonna do is wait for Out of the Park Baseball Manager 2006 to come and make it on that game. However, I am looking at southendgrounds roster list right now and I will incorporate those into my lists. I will post the final rosters in the next few weeks (hopefully!) for anybody that wants them on their own baseball sim game.

Welcome back! I have just downloaded the now FREE version of ootp5 and wondered if you had any tips for creating/editing players.

If you go to OOTP's forum, add-ons (try this link), there are many things you can download. Among them are the Ankin DB52 (v 5.2), and the Ankin CareeraverageDB52. I think these may be what you are looking for. I believe the players in these databases are "normalized" so that everything is evened out across different eras. There is an even newer DB, arodgarlanregDB65 which does pretty much the same, but has also included some of the top Negro League players. There are so many addons to OOTP (free) that you can do virtually anything with it. I don't doubt that DM is a great game, and I am in Leecemark's DM Keeper League, but the teams are expensive. They are free in OOTP.
You see, you spend a good deal of your life gripping a baseball and in the end it turns out that it was the other way around all the time. J. Bouton

I am downloading OOTP5 right now. I had Season Ticket Baseball 2003 or OOTP4. Thanks, southendgrounds!

For catcher24, I've seen the databases before but I wanted to make my own, based on who I wanted on the teams. Not what others wanted. Thanks for the help though.

I have vacation from Friday to the 3rd so I hope to get this whole project done by then. I'll post later this week hopefully.

How did you get OOTP5 for free? It still tried to make me pay for it.

I think you misunderstood me. If you download the database(s), you can take ANY player from ANY year into your league/onto your teams. You don't have to go with any predesignated teams. Hell, I'm in the fourth year of a "career league" that combines teams from the 1901 Senators to the 2003 Tigers! And I can't stress enough, you don't have to take the whole team. You can download any individual player from the DB.
