  • SIGN UP HERE for Free All-Time Sim League!

Because the website is not up and running yet and because I want to give prospective league members a taste of how awesome this league is going to be...

    FOR A LIMITED TIME ONLY...

We are currently accepting members for the National Base Ball League (NBBL).

Members will own a team of their choosing and will draft a team of actual major leaguers from throughout history. Players from throughout major league history are available!

Games will be played using a computer simulation programand will be simmed on my computer. Each league member will submit a "managerial profile" so the computer can sim games for his team according to his wishes.

Draw up your lineups, rotations, bullpen, strategies, etc. Make mega-trades to get that missing piece you need for the stretch run. Get a jump on the competition by landing a steal in the draft.

We are looking for at least three more players (which would give us 24 teams to start with). We will have two leagues - the (William) Hulbert League and the (Ban) Johnson League. The Johnson league will use the designated hitter; the Hulbert League will not.

The All-Star Game will be played at mid-season.

Each league is composed of 12 teams, divided equally between 2 divisions (based on team geography). At the end of the 154-game season, the division winners will play each other in a best-of-seven League Championship Series followed by the World's Series: a best-of-nine affair between the Hulbert and Johnson League Champions!

This is a one-season only ticket. No fees, dues or other obligations besides your committment to draft your team and submit a managerial profile.

The rest of the work will be done by the computer, with results posted regularly. You just have to sit back, relax and watch your team of all-time greats trample the competition on the way to October glory!

Imagine Ty Cobb on first, ready to test the throwing arm of Johnny Bench. Imagine Bob Gibson staring down the Beast, Jimmie Foxx as Roger Bresnahan tries to frame the pitch. Imagine Mark McGwire teeing off Warren Spahn and seeing the ball sail over Billy Hamilton's head in center field. Imagine Vladimir Guerrero snaring a liner off the bat of Mickey Mantle, giving Firpo Marberry the save. Imagine Hughie Jennings rounding the bases with his "Eey-Yaw!" on a hit-and-run by Willie Randolph as Scott Rolen tried to fire the ball to Hal Chase in time.

Well...in the National Base Ball League, you don't have to. You can read about it in tomorrow's boxscore!

Sign-up today. (24 teams available.) Please apply by replying to this post and indicating the name of your team (first come, first served). You must use the name of a real major league franchise (though it may be a defunct one) and you will play in the league in which the team actually played (to the extent possible).

Historic and contemporary stadiums will also be available. You may play in any park actually used in the major leagues from 1901-2003. We'll get to that later, however.

    For now...who's interested?

I'll take the Seattle Mariners in Safeco Field.
"Under lights in the dark at the edge of the Sound
With a crack of the bat the ball flashes to ground
And leaps to the left through the glorious green

Comes a grab that is sure and a toss that is shrewd

              (1) As people sign up, I'll add their names to the earlier post, editing it as necessary.

              (2) Hold off on naming your parks because there will be a "stadium" draft before we draft players.

              (3) The Montreal Royals and Detroit Wolverines may select which league they wish to represent. (Remember the DH is only in the Johnson League). The Royals were a minor league team and Detroit was an NL entry only with that nickname, though they later joined the AL and changed the name to Tigers, naturally. So please state your preference.

I'd be thrilled to get 32-36 teams. There's certainly enough players (over 16,000) available to stock that many.

                Just Curious...

Having never played a sim league before, a couple of questions have arisen...

Will this coincide with the Major League season? ie 1 game per day etc or is it alot quicker?

Also how will the draft work?

Let's get an even balance, so given the option, I'll choose the Johnson league, in spite of the Wolverines being in the NL. BTW, Chance, I applaud your decision to name it Hulbert and not Bulkeley.

It doesn't have to coincide with the MLB season, but in order to give everyone plenty of opportunity to get their team drafted, it very well might.

How fast the games are played are up to you guys. Technically, I could have the computer sim the entire season in a single day. Naturally, that wouldn't be much fun.

How about we have a league-wide vote once everyone has signed up: I can sim/post one "day" of games each real day or I can sim 5 games and post every 3 days, 10 games and post every week, etc. Whatever pace everyone decides/prefers.

                    Draft
The draft order will be assigned completely by random and will go in a "snake" fashion. So the first team picking in the first round will be the last team picking in the second round. I'm simply going to write everyone's team down (alphabetically) and roll dice to determine who's first, second, third, etc. in the first round.

No salaries are involved. You simply pick a player and he's yours. Draft picks can't be traded. Players can be traded after the draft is over.

Free agents - guys who aren't drafted - can also be picked up on a first-come, first-served basis between the draft and opening day.

I figure we'll start a thread here and people will take turns editing the first post.

                    1. Babe Ruth
                    2. Wee Willie Keeler
                    3. Herb Score
                    4. Baby Doll Jacobsen
                    5. Rafael Ramirez
                    6.

                    etc.

I'll take the Seattle Pilots, since I'm assuming brewcrew will want to play, and he can have the Brewers since he's been around longer. The Pilots are the next best thing. =)

Is it 24 teams (You said in your first post) or 26-32 (You said in a later post)?

I'll take the Brooklyn Dodgers. However, I will gladly hand this name over to any of the elder Brooklynites from our site should they be inclined to participate. I guess for the time being, I'll go into the Eastern Division of the Johnson League to fill that vacancy. feel free to shift me to whatever division is most convenient for you, though, Chancellor.

At least 24 teams. If we have a great deal more sign up then I think we ought to move towards a three-division per league setup instead. I'm taking a wait-and-see approach with how many sign up.

My minimum target, however, is 24 teams.
