  • I don't play online to begin with. I never have played a PS2 game online, but I am turned off from what my friends have told me.

Now my above post my have been misleading... It's a great game online, don't get me wrong. I have played in some intense battles of a game. Hell last night I was Detroit, and this one guy on my friends list was the Yanks. Score was 2-2 in extra innings, until Craig Monroe hit a bloop single to drive in Neifi Perez (pinchrunner) who was on 3rd off of Mariano Riveria.
On the other hand there have been blowouts. I have beat people 16-2, 18-7, etc. It's just like real life, a real hit and miss kind of game. h

      • How do you get games to work online? Sorry if this is a really dumb question.

        • I know this is kinda of off-topic but for online gameplay for PS2 do you have to pay like for xbox live?

          • PS2's online service is free. All you need is the device (forget the name).

Not a dumb question. Heck, I didn't figure it out until about 5 months after I bought the game. Ok, here is what you need to play MLB 06' The SHow "online".
1.) PREFERRABLY a DSL connection OR a cable modem connection (56k dialup is too slow, and lags games, it's no fun that way).
2.) A ETHERNET cable (Think of a oversized version of a telelphone cord).
3.) Plug one end of the ethernet cable in one of the slots in the BACK of your ps2, and plug the other end in the back of the dsl modem (or cable modem)
4.) You will also need the ONLINE startup disk. Without that disk to load the features, you will NOT be able to play online.
5.) Once the disk is loaded, put the game in your ps2, you will also need a memory card (WARNING! It requires a TON of free space, so I just use one just for that game).
6.) Create your user name, and bam! Follow the easy instructions. Instead of playing the dumb computer in games, you can now play versus hundreds of other people. There are many different rooms, for levels. Ie; Rookie rooms, Pro rooms, All Star, etc. East, West, Central, among other rooms. I'd say about 12 -15 rooms in all.
7.) In order to play in the Pro rooms, or All Star rooms, for every win you get 5 points, for every loss they minus 5 points, every time your getting your butt handed to you and you wimp out and quit (I can't stand when people quit! ) they minus 5 points also. The ycalculate team batting average, winning streaks, and your overall record. pretty cool stuff. I hope that I answered your question. If you need any more help feel free to drop me a pm.

              • What is the online start up disk?

Also, I have the original PS2 model and that doesn't have a USB port on the back.

                • The USB port is on the front on the original PS2. I've got one too.

Will this work for other games, such as MVP 06 NCAA?

When I bought my "slim" ps2 early last year it came with it. Refer to #4 of my above post. Without the online startup disk, your not playing online. period.

As long as on the back of the games it says "Broadband Capable" or something to that effect. All of the games that I have can be played online.

                      I meant an Ethernet port.
