  • All-Time A-Z Draft rules and draft page

    I think we are ready:

    A-Z Draft

    Rules and considerations
    • We will have 8 teams participate in a snake daft. I will randomly (drawing names) select the draft order.
    • I will randomly (drawing names) select matchups for an 8-team bracket-style playoff. Participants will vote for who they think is the best team for each matchup.
    • Participants will select their home ballpark and other participants should consider how their players interact with their parks when voting. Any park in history can be selected, but please indicate a desired year.
    • Each team will have 25 players. 10 will be pitchers. I will not make arbitrary position requirements asI firmly believe that most players can successfully DOWN the positional spectrum without issues. If somebody wants to put three CF in their OF...go for it. However, people with different opinions can consider that in their voting if they choose - so it might not be best strategy. Likewise - there are no requirements on SP vs. RP numbers.
    • Teams will create starting lineups vs. lefties and vs. righties - both with the DH for the playoffs.
    • Participants will select only players whose LAST names begin with ‘A’ in round one. ‘B’ in round 2, etc. One of the 26 rounds will be for selecting a manager. Participants may select their manager in any round. Voters should consider manager when voting in the playoffs. Please have list of 10-12 potential guys at hand to keep things moving.
    • Round 24 will be the ‘X’ rounds. Players chosen may have an ‘X’ as any letter in their first or last name to qualify.
    • All MLB players are eligible, including Negro an Cuban league players (as they are now officially MLB players). Japanese league numbers will not count.
    • When voting, people should rate the players however they feel. No arbitrary “7-year peak” focus or whatnot.
    • One exception is PEDs. I would prefer if everyone ignored PEDs for this project. If somebody pretends Bonds or Clemens (etc.) do not exist (like they do in other projects), it could drastically skew results. Let’s assume EVERYONE or NONE has used or is using PEDs in our league.
    • Finding the perfect wait-time for picks is very difficult. Too little and people with busy lives have a hard time participating. Too long and everyone loses interest. I think 8 hours seems like a fair wait-time. If a player does not select after 8 hours, the next person may select. The participant who missed the 8-hour window may select two players when his/her pick comes-around again.
    • There will be no picks allowed between 12:00am Central to 6:00am Central. That is when I sleep each day. These 6 hours will not count towards the 8-hour limit.
    • Trades are not allowed.

Question: will you be running a season "sim" for the league, or will we just look at the rosters and vote as to which team is best, second, etc.?

Just voting - it is in the rules above.

Given the six hour hiatus every night, that leaves us with 18 daylight hours to get picks in. Might we shorten the 8-hr window/pick to 6 hrs instead? That way, we are guaranteed a minimum of 3 picks made per day. I don't see an appreciable difference, particularly given that everyone should know when their own pick is coming up. I think most of us check in on the site more than once per day anyway.

I will be running the Burlington Patriots.

Home games to be played at Patriots Park.

The Patriots have also announced the hiring of Cotton McKnight for play-by-play announcer, and Pepper Brooks for color commentary on the team's regional broadcast network, PSN, the Patriot Sports Network.

Thanks- I thought that's the way it read. I'm perfectly okay with this, but a sim would be a lot of fun. Do you have one or know someone here at BBF who has one? I don't know how much work it would be to set it up if available. Anyhow, I'm okay with voting.

I personaly do not have the resources for it. We would also have to select much more specific criteria. I would prefer just a vote this time and maybe somebody out there with a sim. system can think about running one after this drat is done. I would like to make this a somewhat routine ting we do around here again.

Is there a park name from Toledo to go along with that when we draft parks?
