  • All-Time Non-HOFer Draft

It's just like a regular All-Time Draft, but without those inducted into the Hall as players. Draft based on MLB accomplishments only. I'm looking for a minimum of eight teams; beyond that, I don't care how many enter. Snake draft. If you join, Jim Albright and Bill Burgess will appear at your door and sing the full version of "Take Me Out to the Ball Game". Tip well, and they might throw in the "Who's on First?" bit.

To qualify at a position, a player must have played at least 500 games at that position. If he played twice as many games at one position as any other, he must play that position.

    Team design:

    C
    1B
    2B
    3B
    SS
    LF
    CF
    RF
    DH

The DH is open to any player.

Nine pitchers of your choice, plus one reliever. A realistic pitching staff is not appropriate for this kind of project. Who cares who the 30th best reliever not in the Hall is?

Five bench players. Must include backup catcher, two other infielders and two outfielders. Center fielders can play corner outfield, and left fielders and right fielders are interchangeable. In other words, if a player plays 500 games at center, but not as a corner OF, he may still be placed at the corner spots. A player with 500 games in left can play right no matter the number of games there, and vice versa. But corners cannot play center if they do not meet the 500 games minimum there. Backup infielders can only play at a position they meet the 500 games requirement.

Wild card. Can add a pitcher or another bench player.

    That's 25 players.

So are Pete Rose, Jeff Bagwell, and Albert Pujols eligible or do we need to only include guys who were/are eligible for HOF voting?

Players who were or are eligible. Last I checked, Bagwell fit in that category. I should have clarified. Thanks for the catch.

I might be interested in doing it. I was just thinking what a shame it was that we haven't had a good draft in a while.

So then, no active players, no banned players and no players whose turn on the ballot hasn't come up yet?

I'm up for another one of these now that Ron Santo is finally off the market

Are we looking for career value, 10 yr peak, 5 yr peak?

Do we pick a home stadium or are we assuming a neutral field?

It's just a draft. Pick players based on your own judgment. I have no idea what you mean by that last question.

Thank you. I hate when I am forced to stick a Jose Mesa on my team just to have a status quo reliever on the team when we leave dozens of better starters on the table.

Sorry, what I mean is do we tailor our team to a particular home field or not bother with park effects?
