Knights candidates
--Willie Mays leads all CFers in OBP, SLG, HR and RBI. The Knight's elder statesman still plays a VG CF too. The Sey Hey Kid is making a bid for his third MVP:gt. Billy Williams is another MVP contender. He leads all LF in HR and SLg and the league in RBI. Dick McAuliffe leads all 2B in virtually every offensive category. Jim Fregosi is amoung the leaders in all offensive categories at SS,although he is first only in runs (and I couldn't put him ahead of Gen Alley at this point). I probably couldn;t justify voting for him but catcher Elston Howard has a line of 418/465/747 in about 100 PA.
--The pitching is less inspiring. Sonny Seibert is 9-4 with a 2.26 ERA and should make it. Relievers Eddie Watt, Bobby Bolin and Fred Lasher could be candidates if they get hot.

Legends All Star Possibilities
Here are the Legends players that I feel are deserving of all star berths. I have not listed anyone from my roster that I don't intend to vote for.
Bill Freehan, catcher: Other than Howard (111 PA) and Dietz (107 PA), Freehan has the highest OPS of any catcher (843), and has 366 PA. He leads all regular catchers in HR, runs, RBI, and slugging. He also has played stellar defense, throwing out 49% of stolen base attempts.
Willie McCovey, first base: Second in AB among first basemen. Leads in HR, Runs, RBI, slugging; second in OBP.
Hank Aaron, RF: Even with Yaz having another great season, Aaron is a bit better. He's first in OPS and runs, second in HR and RBI, first in SB, and is playing a great RF.
Luis Tiant, SP: 12-4 record, sixth in ERA among starters, best WHIP among starters, first in strikeouts.
Fergie Jenkins, SP: 11-6 record, seventh in ERA, 1.02 WHIP, leads league in innings pitched. You see, you spend a good deal of your life gripping a baseball and in the end it turns out that it was the other way around all the time. J. Bouton

Guys...unless there is a serious objection, I would like to abstain on the All Star voting...still trying to find my way to to the clubhouse and I don't think I am well-versed enough to cast an informed and well-considered ballot. You see, you spend a good deal of your life gripping a baseball and in the end it turns out that it was the other way around all the time. Sigh... if only there was a way to sort the stats on the text reports (or the website) by position. Would make this a whole lot easier.
C: Jerry Grote, Bill Freehan
1B: Willie McCovey, Mickey Mantle
2B: Dick McAuliffe, Davey Johnson
3B: Mike Shannon, Jim Ray Hart (Ward doesn't play enough)
SS: Gene Alley, Jim Fregosi
LF: Frank Robinson, Billy Williams
CF: Jimmy Wynn, Willie Mays
RF: Hank Aaron, Carl Yastrzemski, Dick Allen, Tony Oliva
SP: Sam McDowell, Luis Tiant, Dean Chance, Dave McNally, Fergie Jenkins, Tom Seaver, Sonny Siebert, Bob Gibson
RP: Clay Carroll, Jim Perry, Ron Kline, Steve Hamilton
A bit tough to judge the relievers, as really the only stats available are save-based.Last edited by Erik Bedard; 03-20-2008, 04:14 AM.

--I always put somebody from each team on my ballot. The Gamblers haven't made that easy this year though:noidea. I was leanign toward Mel Stottlemyre, but he got bombed in his last start and drove his ERA over 4. I'll probably go with Pete Ward now. He has missed half the season, but his rates are great and there aren't alot of compelling candidates at 3B.
--The other cellar dwellers offer better options. The Angels have two starting pitchers who could make it strictly on merit - Dave McNally and Milt Pappas, although I'll probably vote for only one of them. The Badgers have LFer Cleon Jones and SP Woody Fryman. Neither are exactly a lock, but you could vote for either even without considering their place as team token.
--The surprise for me maybe only having one candidate from the first place Hard Cider. Tom Haller is having a terrific season, but Freehan and maybe Grote could edge him out. Dick Allen and Norm Cash have a shot also, but neither is a sure thing.
