1980 Season Thread

--The Thunder maintain the league's best record - a sterling 13-2, but the Skipjacks have run their winning streak to 8 to pull within a game. Craig is now under .500 for the year though as his Tyrants have dropped to 1-14.
--The Iron swept the Corsairs to claim the Chadwick lead. The division as a whole has underperformed terribly, "led" by the pre-season favorite Corsairs who have stumbled to a 4-11 start and currently sit int he cellar.
--The Johnson has a 3 way tie for the lead, with the Dust Bunnies only 2 games back. The Cartwright also has 3 teams bunched closely, with the Jaxx leading the Beavers and Hard Cider by a game.

So far, my two offseason SP pickups (Steve Trout and Reggie Cleveland) are working out well. Trout's main problem in real life was giving up too many hits, which appears to have been entirely reversed so far with the help of an infield defense featuring one Ex and three Vg fielders. Cleveland might be experiencing something similar, as a very low strikeout pitcher. On the hitting side, Reggie Jackson and Cesar Cedeno are what I expected them to be, but I can't really say the same for pretty much anyone else on the roster, especially Ken Singleton, though he has gotten off to slow starts in the past and come around to be his usual awesome self.

Tommy Boggs tossed a no hitter for the Thunder against the Badgers in the last series of games. That's the first one since the 1977 season. Further details in the notes on the web page.

--Alot of parity in the Robinson, with 7 of 8 teams either 11-10 or 12-9. Not as much in the Ruth where the Hulbert has 3 big winners and the Hulbert has a pair of teams at 8-13 leading the way.

I don't ever recall seven of eight teams in one league being within one game of each other, even after the first series of the year. This could be a real dog fight.

--We move into May and the new month brings some new division leaders. The Gold Sox sweep the Knights to claim sole possession of the Johnson. The Corsairs sweep the Gamblers to jump into the Chadwick lead, although their 10-14 record would be good for last in 2 divisions. And the Skipjacks sweep the Thunder to claim the Hulbert lead.
