            Catcher
Lance Parrish, Badgers – Has really come into his own at the plate this season. Leading all catchers in hits, batting average, slugging and OBP.
Gary Carter, Knights – Continues to produce year after year. A sterling season so far for the veteran backstop, leading catchers in HR and RBI.

            First Base
Andre Thornton, Tyrants – Nice comeback season for the Tyrants. Leads first basemen in homers, RBI and walks.
Eddie Murray, Beavers – Simply puts up great numbers yearly without much notice. A real model of consistency.

            Second Base
Joe Morgan, Dust Bunnies – Long time CKL star has rejuvenated a career that had been on the downslide for three seasons. Leads league in OBP and is fourth in steals. Still playing a decent second base, too.
Ryne Sandberg, Tyrants – Real hope for the Tyrants future and leading candidate for Rookie of the Year. Great pop in this kid’s bat, leading second sackers in home runs. Has a great glove as well.

            Third Base
Mike Schmidt, Psycho Llamas – Flip a coin between Schmidt and Brett, because there are those two and then everyone else at the hot corner. I went with Schmidt because he’s played most of his games at third, although Brett seems to have the better glove this year.
George Brett, Skipjacks – Would have put him first if he hadn’t played so much left field this year. Numbers as good as Schmidt and a lot less errors.

            Shortstop
Robin Yount, Tyrants – No other shortstop is even close, a very easy choice. Leads all SS in just about every major offensive category and playing a great game in the field as well.
Roy Smalley, Dust Bunnies – Range has diminished over his peak, but still has enough pop in his bat to beat out U.L. Washington for the spot.

            Left Field
Dave Winfield, Lumberjaxx – Having a fine year for the Jaxx. Leads all LFers in doubles, homers, runs and RBI. Prime reason the Jaxx are hanging close in their division.
Oscar Gamble, Tyrants – A platoon player, but is far enough ahead of Harold Baines with both the bat and glove to take the backup spot.

            Center Field
Kirk Gibson, Tyrants – Another platoon player, but his bat is far enough ahead of the rest to take the starter spot. Best fielder of the top contenders as well.
Lonnie Smith, Dust Bunnies – Went with him over Brunansky because he has played in the field every game (Brunansky has DHed often) and has 49 steals to none for Bruno.

            Right Field
Dwight Evans, Boys – Best season of this long time CKLer’s career to date. Bat has really been on fire all season. Nice range in the field, but makes too many errors.
Dusty Baker, Dust Bunnies – Edges out both Lynn and Singleton with a better glove. Offensive numbers of all three are very comparable – and very decent.

            Designated Hitter
Hal McRae, Tyrants – Truly a DH, as he has started all 93 games at that position – and done a great job. Terrific numbers at the plate.
Jason Thompson, Legends – Homer vote. The best pick would probably be Lowenstein, but Thompson has played a few more games and has played them for the Legends, so I’ll take him as the backup.

            Starting Pitcher
Fernando Valenzuela, Legends – Leads all starters in wins (tied with Flanagan), ERA, innings pitched and shutouts. Without him the Legends are probably fighting to stay out of the cellar.
Mike Flanagan, Lumberjaxx – Another surprise. Projected to be a fourth or fifth starter the veteran lefty has led the staff with a 12-3 record and 2.94 ERA.
Len Barker, Skipjacks – Fine season is helping to keep the Skipjacks in contention.
Jerry Ujdur, Skipjacks – The unheralded rookie hurler has been a real surprise. 11-4 mark with a fine 2.86 ERA; teams with Barker to provide the Skipjacks with a formidable duo in their rotation.
Floyd Bannister, Hard Cider – Fine numbers this year have put the Cider on top in their division. 11-5 with a nice 2.87 ERA and 1.11 WHIP.
Dennis Eckersley, Iron – Veteran starter is having a fine rebound year after his terrible 1981 season. Staff leader on the best team in baseball right now.
Dave Stieb, Badgers – Putting up fine numbers in a losing cause yet again. If the Badgers could find another starter to pair with him….
Craig Swan, Iron – Having a fine year for the Iron. Would have put him higher if he had pitched more often.
Mike Caldwell, Angels – Took him over Andujar to fill out the ballot based on 20 more IP and a bit lower WHIP – plus I don’t have any other Angels on the ballot.

            Relief Pitchers
Roy Lee Jackson, Iron – Perfect in 13 save opportunites along with six wins, 0.99 ERA and 0.86 WHIP.
Brad Lesley, Dust Bunnies – 14 saves, five wins, 0.98 ERA, 0.95 WHIP.
Jim Barr, Dust Bunnies – Mid-reliever has no saves but has gotten the games he’s entered to the Bunnies closer by posting a 1.66 ERA and tiny 0.85 WHIP in 70.2 innings. Has a 5-0 mark and has tossed complete games in the two games he’s started.
You see, you spend a good deal of your life gripping a baseball and in the end it turns out that it was the other way around all the time. J. Bouton

Lonnie Smith only played 36 games in CF in 1982. Once McGee came up in May, Smith spent the rest of the season in LF.
